''The Promise of Return'' ( Spanish: ''La promesa del retorno'') is a 2020 Chilean fantasy mystery film written, directed and produced by Cristián Sánchez Garfias. Starring Natalia Martínez, Manuel Hübner, José Ignacio Diez, Anderson Tudor, Beatriz Carillo, Rafael Jean François and Daniel Pérez. The film was named on the shortlist for Chilean's entry for the Academy Award for Best International Feature Film at the 94th Academy Awards, but it was not selected. Synopsis An art student dissatisfied with life feels a restlessness in her soul that prevents her from sleeping. Cristián Sánchez (director)
Luis Cristián Sánchez Garfias (born 19 June 1951) is a Cinema of Chile, Chilean film director, writer and teacher. He is best known as one of the few who actively made underground film inside the List of films banned in Chile, repressive Pinochet regime and is a self-proclaimed adherent of the ''Poetics of Cinema'' of Raúl Ruiz (director), Raúl Ruiz whom he studied under at the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile, Universidad Católica in the early 1970s and wrote a book about in 2011. His films ''El zapato chino'' (1979) and ''Los deseos concebidos'' (1982) were both shown at the Berlinale in 1983 and both figure in cinechile.cl's 2016 greatest Chilean films of all-time list. Valdivia International Film Festival
The Valdivia International Film Festival (Spanish: Festival Internacional de Cine de Valdivia (FICV o FICVALDIVIA)) is an international film exhibition and competition, held annually in the city of Valdivia, Los Rios region, Chile. The festival begun in 1993 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Cine Club of the Universidad Austral de Chile. A competition was included the following year, labeled as "Valdivia Cine & Video". That event became a milestone to cultural activity in southern Chile, promising at that time to become the greatest film event in the country. The early versions of the festival were oriented to ecological issues. From that point the characteristic trophy award emerged: the Pudú (The Pudú is a small kind of deer, typical of southern Chile).
