"La Vie en rose" (; ) is the signature song of popular French singer Édith Piaf, written in 1945, popularized in 1946, and released as a single in 1947. The song became very popular in the US in 1950, when seven versions reached the ''Billboard'' charts. These recordings were made by Tony Martin, Paul Weston, Bing Crosby (recorded June 22, 1950), Ralph Flanagan, Victor Young, Dean Martin, and Louis Armstrong. A version in 1977 by Grace Jones was also a successful international hit. ''La Vie En Rose'' is the debut album by Japanese rock band D'erlanger, released on February 10, 1989. It was instantly successful, having to be reissued three times that year alone. The 1991 release reached number 25 on the Oricon Albums Chart and charted for 5 weeks. Background and release Having completed their final lineup in July 1988 with the joining of vocalist Kyo, D'erlanger began recording their first album in October. Drummer Tetsu later recalled that producer Masahiro Oishi threatened that if he took too long to record his drum parts, he would bring in Joe from 44Magnum to play them. ''La Vie En Rose'' was released on February 10, 1989 via Danger Crue Records. Its sound was a drastic departure from their previous material, being punk and alternative rock instead of the speed and power metal they originally had. ''La Vie en Rose'' is a "quadtych", a four panel oil on canvas work by the New York School (art), New York School abstract expressionist painter Joan Mitchell, created in 1979. Named after the 1940s La Vie en Rose, signature song by the French chanteuse Edith Piaf it is in the permanent collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, in New York City, New York. The work is possessed of black, lavender, pink, and gray passages. The work is included in the 2021-2022 large scale survey of Mitchell's jointly mounted and respectively exhibited by the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and the Baltimore Museum of Art. In reviewing the San Francisco showing for ''The New York Times'', Tausif Noir said of the work that in it "Mitchell juxtaposes energetic — nearly violent — sections of black and blue brush strokes against a haze of lavender and pale pink, warping the viewer’s sense of the painting’s scale and directing the eye"....
