La Tablada Israelite Cemetery
The La Tablada Israelite Cemetery ( es, Cementerio Israelita de La Tablada), also known simply as the La Tablada Cemetery, is a Jewish cemetery located in the city of La Tablada, in the Greater Buenos Aires conurbation of Argentina. It was established in 1936 and is operated by the Asociación Mutual Israelita Argentina (AMIA). Housing over 150,000 graves, it is the largest Jewish cemetery in Latin America. Vandalism La Tablada Cemetery has been subject to frequent vandalism, often of anti-semitic nature. In 1999, 62 headstones were damaged on the eve of Yom Kippur. In 2021, over 100 headstones were smashed, echoing a similar vandalic event in 2009. In 2022, over 300 plaques were stolen and a monument in remembrance of the 1994 AMIA bombing was damaged. A Jewish cemetery ( he, בית עלמין ''beit almin'' or ''beit kvarot'') is a cemetery where Jews are buried in keeping with Jewish tradition. Alberto Nisman
Natalio Alberto Nisman (5 December 1963 – 18 January 2015) was an Argentine lawyer who worked as a federal prosecutor, noted for being the chief investigator of the 1994 car bombing of a Jewish center in Buenos Aires, which killed 85 people, the worst terrorist attack in Argentina's history. On 18 January 2015, Nisman was found dead at his home in Buenos Aires, one day before he was scheduled to report on his findings, with supposedly incriminating evidence against high-ranking officials of the then-current Argentinian government including former president Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, regarding the Memorandum of understanding between Argentina and Iran. Nisman's death was initially ruled a suicide by a group of forensic experts appointed by Argentina's Supreme Court in 2015. Efim Schachmeister
Chaim "Efim" Schachmeister (22 July 1894 – 6 October 1944) was a German violinist and bandleader. He also recorded under the pseudonyms ''Sascha Elmo'' and ''Joan Florescu''. Born in Kiev to Romanian Jewish parents, from 1910 to 1913 he studied music at the Stern Conservatory in Berlin. In 1915 he joined the Popescu Gypsy Band (''Zigeuner-Kapelle Popescu''). In 1923 he became bandleader, and the following year embarked on a German tour that ended in April 1925 with an engagement at the Hotel Excelsior in Berlin. Flora Alejandra Pizarnik (29 April 1936 – 25 September 1972) was an Argentine poet. Her idiosyncratic and thematically introspective poetry has been considered "one of the most unusual bodies of work in Latin American literature", and has been recognized and celebrated for its fixation on "the limitation of language, silence, the body, night, the nature of intimacy, madness, nddeath". Alejandro Romay (born Alejandro Argentino Saúl, January 20, 1927 – June 25, 2015) was an Argentine businessman and media mogul. He worked for many years at Canal 9 (known under his management as Canal 9 Libertad), and became known as the "''Czar of television''". Biography Romay started his career in 1940 as radio host at LV 7 Radio Tucumán, at the Tucumán province. He acquired LV 12 Radio Aconquija in 1945, and two years later he moved to Buenos Aires. He kept working as radio host, but started working as well as a radio, TV and theater producer. He became the largest shareholder of Channel 9 in 1963, and director of it. He lost the channel when it was nationalized in 1974 and moved to Puerto Rico, where he acquired two radio stations.
