''The Inner Scar'' (french: La cicatrice intérieure) is a 1972 French film directed by Philippe Garrel, who co-stars with Nico, her son Christian (Ari) and Pierre Clémenti. It was filmed in Egypt, the United States and Iceland. The film features five songs written and performed by Nico: "Abschied", "Janitor of Lunacy", "My Only Child", "All That Is My Own" and "König". Originally released in 1972, it was re-released in 2005. In 2011, it was released on DVD paired with Garrel's 1983 film ''Liberté, la nuit''. Philippe Garrel
Philippe Garrel (; born 6 April 1948) is a French director, cinematographer, screenwriter, film editor, and producer, associated with the French New Wave movement. His films have won him awards at Cannes Film Festival and Venice Film Festival. Early life Philippe Garrel was born in Boulogne-Billancourt in 1948, the son of actor Maurice Garrel and his wife. His brother, Thierry Garrel, is a producer. The younger Garrel became interested in film and started his career early, influenced by the new work of Jean-Luc Godard and François Truffaut. At the age of 16, Garrel wrote and directed his first film, ''Les Enfants désaccordés,'' in 1964. Awards In 1982, Garrel won the Prix Jean Vigo for the film ''L'Enfant secret''. Pierre André Clémenti (28 September 1942 – 27 December 1999) was a French actor. Life and career Born in Paris to an unknown father and Rose Clémenti, a Corsican concierge whose surname he took, Clémenti had a difficult childhood and took refuge in literature and the theatre. He studied drama and began his acting career in the theatre. He secured his first minor screen roles in Yves Allégret's '' Jack of Spades'' ("Chien de pique", 1960), performing alongside Eddie Constantine. Henri Langlois (; 13 November 1914 – 13 January 1977) was a French film archivist and cinephile. A pioneer of film preservation, Langlois was an influential figure in the history of cinema. His film screenings in Paris in the 1950s are often credited with providing the ideas that led to the development of the auteur theory. Langlois was co-founder of the Cinémathèque Française with Georges Franju and Jean Mitry and also co-founder of the International Federation of Film Archives (FIAF) in 1938.
