LSVD
LSVD+ – Verband Queere Vielfalt (LSVD+), German for the LSVD+ – Federation Queer Diversity, is the largest non-governmental LGBT rights organisation in Germany. It was founded in 1990 and is part of the International Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Trans and Intersex Association (ILGA World). The organisation became known throughout Germany for its campaign for same-sex marriage in 1992. The LSVD+ has two main offices, one in Berlin and one in Cologne. LSVD+ was formed as the Schwulenverband in der DDR (SVD) in 1990 and campaigned successfully to equal rights for a same-sex partnership. In March 2024, Lesben- und Schwulenverband in Deutschland (LSVD) changed its name to LSVD+ – Verband Queere Vielfalt (LSVD+). Hirschfeld Eddy Foundation
The Hirschfeld-Eddy Foundation (, HES) was founded in Berlin in June 2007. HES is the human rights foundation of LSVD⁺. The foundation focusses on human rights of lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex and other queer ( LGBTIQ) people. Name origin The Foundation's name remembers two personalities who are important for the worldwide struggle for the Human Rights of gay people: Dr Magnus Hirschfeld (1868–1935), after the German physician, sexologist, sexual reformer and civil rights activist and FannyAnn Eddy (1974–2004), the prominent lesbian human rights activist from Sierra Leone, who was murdered in 2004. LGBT Rights In Germany
Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ) rights in Germany rank among the highest in the world; having evolved significantly over the course of the last decades. During the 1920s and the early 1930s, lesbian and gay people in Berlin were generally tolerated by society and many bars and clubs specifically pertaining to gay men were opened. Although same-sex sexual activity between men was already made illegal under Paragraph 175 by the German Empire in 1871, Nazi Germany extended these laws during World War II, which resulted in the persecution and deaths of thousands of homosexual citizens. Same-sex sexual activity between men was decriminalized in both East and West Germany in 1968 and 1969, respectively. Halina Bendkowski
Halina Bendkowski (born 28 July 1949 in Gliwice, Poland) is a German journalist, politician, and activist for feminism and the lesbian movement. Early life and education Halina Bendkowski was born in Poland as the fourth child of a single mother. In 1956, the family moved to Oberhausen, Ruhr area, North Rhine-Westphalia (NRW). She lived at a Catholic boarding school for girls for two years, where she graduated from high school as an external student. She studied sociology, political science and philosophy at Münster. She completed her studies in 1978 with a master's degree. Career In 1987, together with other women, she founded the ''FrauenfrAKTION'' as an umbrella organisation in Berlin to network women who worked in government or in administration and management with autonomous feminists, regardless of their party affiliation. Manfred Bruns
Manfred Bruns (1934 – 22 October 2019) was a federal prosecutor at the Federal Court of Justice of Germany, and a famous German gay civil rights activist. He was until 2016 a member of the Board of Directors of the Lesbian and Gay Association (LSVD), today LSVD⁺ – Federation Queer Diversity. Early life and career Bruns was born in 1934, in Linz am Rhein in Rhineland-Palatinate, and was brought up in a conservative Catholic household. For years he concealed the possibility he might be gay. In 1961, he got married and had three children. Bruns worked as a prosecutor at West Germany's Constitutional Court in Karlsruhe. Volker Beck (politician)
Volker Beck (born 12 December 1960) is a German politician. From 1994 to 2017, he was a member of the Bundestag, the German federal parliament, for the German Green Party, Green Party. Beck served as the Green Party Speaker for Legal Affairs from 1994 to 2002, and as the Green Party Chief Whip in the Bundestag till 2013. He was also spokesperson for the Green Parliamentary Group for interior affairs and religion. Hella Kemper (born 2 February 1959), known by her stage name Hella von Sinnen (lit. ''Hella out of her mind'', making pun of the aristocratic "von"), is a German entertainer and television presenter. She has been a regular on several TV shows on German private channels, mainly RTL. Rolf Gindorf (14 May 1939 – 26 March 2016) was a German sexologist. He was a member of Mensa. In 1971 he founded the German Society for Social-Scientific Sexuality Research. Holger Bernhard Bruno Mischwitzky (born Holger Radtke; 25 November 1942), known professionally as Rosa von Praunheim, is a German film director, author, producer, professor of directing and one of the most influential and famous LGBT social movements, queer activists in the German-speaking world. A pioneer of Queer Cinema and gay activist from the very beginning, von Praunheim was a key co-founder of the modern lesbian and gay movement in West Germany and Switzerland.
