LA Game Space
LA Game Space was a nonprofit organization focused on experimental game design, research and education. The crowdfunded project planned to open an exhibition space in Los Angeles, along with a research wing, a space for workshops and support for artists in residence. The organization exceeded its crowdfunding target in 2012, but closed down in 2018 having failed to open a physical venue. History Founding The project originated in November 2009, with the founders spending three years planning and organizing collaborators and events. Kickstarter & experimental games The venture was funded via a Kickstarter that asked for $250,000 and ultimately received $335,657 of funding. Paolo Pedercini (born 1981) is an Italian game designer known for making Flash videogames based on provocative left-wing socio-political points of view, on topics such as labour market flexibility and Queer theory, in explicit opposition with the mainstream video game industry. He is also known under the pseudonym Molleindustria, the name of his website. He is known for games such as ''Queer Power'', '' Faith Fighter'' and the '' McDonald's Video Game''. The games are often offered as freeware under a Creative Commons license. Works and activism In 2003, Pedercini launched Molleindustria, a platform for politically active video games, along with a manifesto. Bennett Foddy
Bennett Foddy is an Australian video game designer based in New York. Raised in Australia and trained as a moral philosopher on topics of drug addiction, Foddy was a bassist in the electronic music group Cut Copy and a hobbyist game designer while he finished his dissertation. During his postdoctoral research at Princeton University and time on staff at Oxford University, Foddy developed games of very high difficulty including ''QWOP'' (2008), which became an Internet sensation at the end of 2010 with the rise of new online social sharing tools. He later became an instructor at the NYU Game Center. Arcane Kids
Arcane Kids is an independent video game studio based in Los Angeles, California. They are a collective of developers, largely known for creating surreal and humorous video games using the Unity engine. As of 2015, the group consisted of 5 members, including Ben Esposito, Russell Honor, Tom Astle, Jacob Knipfing, and Yuliy Vigdorchik. The name "Arcane Kids" was derived from a mysterious re-writable compact disc with the phrase inscribed on top of it, which was found lying in a patch of dirt. Perfect Stride
''Perfect Stride'' is a semi-unreleased unfinished indie skateboarding video game developed by Arcane Kids and released in an alpha form in 2013. Gameplay ''Perfect Stride'' is a first-person skateboarding simulator that players can do tricks in and socialize with other players online. It is set in an alternate universe in which pro skater Tony Hawk had never landed the 900 at X Games V in 1999 and achieved widespread recognition, and thus had never "triggered an explosion of corporate skateboarding", leading to the rise-in-power of an immortal "time wizard" who uses his abilities to prevent anybody from dying. Jim Munroe is a Canadian science fiction author, who publishes his works independently under the imprint ''No Media Kings''."Author dumps publisher". ''Peterborough Examiner'', May 6, 2000. Munroe was managing editor at the magazine ''Adbusters'' in the 1990s, before publishing his debut novel ''Flyboy Action Figure Comes With Gasmask'' in 1999. Ben Babbitt is a Los Angeles-based artist and musician for independent films and video games. He is a founding member of the video game development studio Cardboard Computer, where he wrote the soundtrack for ''Kentucky Route Zero''. Career Babbitt has been making music since a very young age, and comes from a musical family with both parents playing in orchestras in Chicago. Saltsman has additionally described the title as a "massively single-player offline game". The game has variously been presented either as a downloadable title or as an installation piece. Gameplay The objective of the game is to guide increasing numbers of letters to the finish line – with one keyboard key corresponding to each letter. The player can tap a key to make the letter jump, or hold it to make it run. This task quickly becomes chaotic due to the large number of letters that need to be managed. In the 2016 arcade-style version, this reaches a maximum of ten letters, while the 2013 version features the full alphabet. Ace Hotel Downtown Los Angeles, originally built as the California Petroleum Corporation Building and later known as the Texaco Building, is a , 13-story highrise hotel and theater building located at 937 South Broadway in downtown Los Angeles, California.
