Pompei 2000, often known as Ditta Pompei simply as Pompei, is an Italian manufacturer of shoes for film and stage productions. Founded in 1932 by cousins Ernesto and Luigi Pompei, it has primarily served Cinecittà film productions. In the 1960s, it manufactured classical foot gear for the numerous sword and sandal epics being made at Cinecittà. Since the 1970s when the company was passed down to Ernesto's son, Carlo Pompei. Their stock consists of approximately 800,000 thousand shoes. Based in Rome, Pompei also has branches in Paris and London. Cinecittà Studios (; Italian for Cinema City Studios), is a large film studio in Rome, Italy. With an area of 400,000 square metres (99 acres), it is the largest film studio in Europe, and is considered the hub of Italian cinema. The studios were constructed during the Fascist era as part of a plan to revive the Italian film industry. Filmmakers such as Federico Fellini, Roberto Rossellini, Luchino Visconti, Sergio Leone, Bernardo Bertolucci, Francis Ford Coppola, Martin Scorsese, and Mel Gibson have worked at Cinecittà. ''Waterloo'' (russian: Ватерлоо) is a 1970 epic historical war film about the Battle of Waterloo. A co-production between Italy and the Soviet Union, it is directed by Sergei Bondarchuk and produced by Dino De Laurentiis. It stars Rod Steiger as Napoleon Bonaparte and Christopher Plummer as the Duke of Wellington with a cameo by Orson Welles as Louis XVIII of France.
