''The Idiot'' (French: ''L'idiot'') is a 1946 French drama film directed by Georges Lampin and starring Edwige Feuillère, Lucien Coëdel and Jean Debucourt.Oscherwitz & Higgins p.167 It is an adaptation of Fyodor Dostoevsky's novel ''The Idiot''. The film's sets were designed by Léon Barsacq, credited as the art director. It was shot at the Epinay Studios, Epinay and Neuilly Studios in Paris. The Idiot
''The Idiot'' (Reforms of Russian orthography, pre-reform Russian: ; post-reform ) is a novel by the 19th-century Russian author Fyodor Dostoevsky. It was first published serially in the journal ''The Russian Messenger'' in 1868–1869. The title is an ironic reference to the central character of the novel, Prince Myshkin, Lev Nikolayevich Myshkin, a young Knyaz, prince whose goodness, open-hearted simplicity, and guilelessness lead many of the more worldly characters he encounters to mistakenly assume that he lacks intelligence and insight. In the character of Prince Myshkin, Dostoevsky set himself the task of depicting "the positively good and beautiful man." The novel examines the consequences of placing such a singular individual at the centre of the conflicts, desires, passions, and egoism of worldly society, both for the man himself and for those with whom he becomes involved. Jane Marken (born Jeanne Berthe Adolphine Crabbe, sometimes credited as Jeanne Marken; 13 January 1895 in Paris – 1 December 1976 in Paris) was a French actress. She was the first wife of the actor Jules Berry. Marken began her film career under the aegis of Abel Gance in 1915. Mathilde Casadesus
Mathilde Casadesus (1921–1965) was a French film actress.Goble p.95 Biography Born into a family of renowned musicians, she is the daughter of cellist and composer Marius Casadesus and cellist Lucette Laffite. She is the half-sister of Gréco Casadesus and first cousin of Gisèle Casadesus. However, she chose to become an actress and, in 1945, began her film career. She appeared in almost thirty films, alongside Bourvil, Fernandel, Gabin and Jean Marais, among others. At the same time, she played numerous roles on stage, and appeared in operettas, notably with Marcel Merkès and Paulette Merval. Mathilde Casadesus, mother of dancer Lucile Casadesus, died during the filming of How to Steal a Million Dollars with Audrey Hepburn, in which she did not appear.
