Alexander Richard William L'Estrange (born 7 April 1974) is an English composer of choral music and music for television and an arranger for world-class vocal ensembles. He is also an accomplished jazz musician (piano and double bass), choral workshop leader, presenter of children's concerts and, for a long time, was a jazz examiner and trainer for ABRSM. Gisèle Lestrange
Gisèle Lestrange or Gisèle de Lestrange, and after marriage, Gisèle Celan-Lestrange (19 March 1927 – 9 December 1991), was a French graphic artist. Biography Born in Paris, Lestrange studied drawing and painting at the Académie Julian in Paris from 1945 to 1949, and then etching at the Atelier Friedlaender, in Paris, from 1954 to 1957. She became a well-known engraver, working for the Atelier Lacourière-Frélaut in Paris as of 1964. Her father, a known supporter of the Vichy regime, died in 1943. On 21 December 1952 she married the poet Paul Celan, whom she had met in November 1951. The couple had two sons, Francois (b. 1953), who died immediately after birth, and Eric (b. 1955). As of 1967, however, she and Celan lived in separate homes. As a graphic artist, she illustrated the works of a number of well-known poets. Many of her works are linked to Celan's poems. Sir Thomas Le Strange (1494–1545) of Hunstanton, Norfolk, born in 1494, son of Robert le Strange (''d''. 1511), sixth in descent from Hamo le Strange, brother of John le Strange, 6th Baron of Knockyn, was Esquire of the Body to Henry VIII, and attended the King when he went to the Field of the Cloth of Gold in 1520; he was knighted by Henry at Whitehall in 1529, and served as High Sheriff of Norfolk in 1532. Hamon Le Strange
Sir Hamon le Strange (1583 – 31 May 1654) was an English politician who sat in the House of Commons at various times between 1614 and 1626. He supported the Royalist cause in the English Civil War. His family were Norfolk gentry long based at their manor of Hunstanton. Life and career Le Strange was the son of Sir Nicholas le Strange of Hunstanton and his wife Mary Bell, and a great-grandson of the MP Sir Nicholas L'Estrange. He was admitted to Queens' College, Cambridge on 26 July 1601 and knighted on 13 March 1604. From 1608 to 1609 he was the High Sheriff of Norfolk. In 1614 and again in 1625 Le Strange was elected MP for Norfolk. In 1625 and 1626 he was also elected MP for Castle Rising. In 1616 a priest, Thomas Tunstal, escaped from Wisbech Castle to Norfolk. Guy Le Strange (24 July 1854 – 24 December 1933) was a British Orientalist noted especially for his work in the field of the historical geography of the pre-modern Middle Eastern and Eastern Islamic lands, and his editing of Persian geographical texts. Fulk le Strange, 1st Baron Strange of Blackmere (died 23 January 1324) was a 13th- and 14th-century English nobleman. He was a younger son of Robert le Strange. After the death of his older brother John, Fulk inherited in 1289 lands in Wrockwardine, Ellesmere and the other possessions of his family in Shropshire. In 1294 he took part in the campaign in Gascony. From 1298 he took part during the Scottish Wars of Independence in several campaigns during the reigns of kings Edward I and Edward II. Through writ of summons he attended parliament in 1308 and 1309 as Baron Strange of Blackmere. He was appointed on 26 May 1322 as Seneschal of Gascony. He died in January 1324 and was succeeded by his son John. Baron Strange of Blackmere is an abeyant title in the Peerage of England. It was created on 13 January 1309 when Fulk le Strange was summoned to parliament. On the death of the fifth baron in 1375, it was inherited by Elizabeth Mowbray, née le Strange. On her death in the year 1383, it was inherited by Ankaret Talbot, née le Strange, daughter of the fourth Baron. On her son's death in 1419, the baron was inherited by Ankaret Talbot, his daughter. On her death in 1421, the barony was inherited by her uncle, John Talbot who was created Earl of Shrewsbury, Earl of Waterford and hereditary Lord High Steward of Ireland.
