L'Enfant (film)
''L'Enfant'' (English: ''The Child'') is a 2005 Belgian film directed by Jean-Pierre and Luc Dardenne, starring Jérémie Renier and Déborah François. The film was released under its French title in the US, and as ''The Child'' in the UK. It received critical acclaim and won the Palme d'Or at the 2005 Cannes Film Festival, among other accolades. In 2017, the film was named the fourteenth "Best Film of the 21st Century So Far" by ''The New York Times''. Plot Bruno, 20, and Sonia, 18, are surviving on her welfare cheques and Bruno's petty crimes when Sonia becomes pregnant. While Sonia is absent, Bruno sells their baby to a black market adoption ring to make some quick cash. Jérémie Renier
(; born 6 January 1981) is a Belgian actor. His film debut was in the critically praised (1996), directed by the Dardenne brothers. He became better known to worldwide audiences in ''Brotherhood of the Wolf'' (2001) and (2005). The latter was also directed by the brothers. He portrayed French singer in the 2012 film ''My Way (2012 film), My Way'', for which he was nominated for a César Award for Best Actor, and Yves Saint Laurent (brand), Yves Saint Laurent co-founder Pierre Bergé in the 2014 biopic ''Saint Laurent (film), Saint Laurent'', which earned him a César Award nomination for César Award for Best Supporting Actor, Best Supporting Actor. 31st César Awards
The 31st César Awards ceremony, presented by the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, honoured the best films of 2005 in France and took place on 25 February 2006 at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris. The ceremony was chaired by Carole Bouquet and hosted by Valérie Lemercier. ''The Beat That My Heart Skipped'' won the award for Best Film. The ceremony was marred by demonstrations by the ''intermittents'' (film industry workers), who lobbied for greater rights for temporary contract workers after running onto the stage before the start. César Awards
The César Award is the national film award of France. It is delivered in the ' ceremony and was first awarded in 1976. The nominations are selected by the members of twelve categories of filmmaking professionals and supported by the French Ministry of Culture. The nationally televised award ceremony is held in Paris each year in February. The exact location has changed over the years (in the Théâtre du Châtelet from 2002 to 2016). It is an initiative of the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma, which was founded in 1975. The César Award is considered the highest film honor in France, the French film industry's equivalent to the Molière Award for theatre, and the Victoires de la Musique for music.
