Château Angélus
Château Angélus, until 1990 known as Château L'Angélus, or simply L'Angélus, is a winery in the Right Bank of the Bordeaux wine region, in the appellation of Saint-Émilion. The estate was formerly highly ranked in the Classification of Saint-Émilion wine, being promoted to ''Premier grand cru classé'' in 1996, then ''Premier grand cru classé (A)'' in 2012, before withdrawing from the classification in 2021. The château also produces a second wine named ''Carillon d’Angélus'' (since 1987) and a third wine, ''No. 3 d’Angélus''. A fourth label was announced in 2022 called Tempo d’Angélus which is a Bordeaux AOP wine from plots of land acquired in the Côtes de Bordeaux Castillon area to the east of Saint-Émilion in 2017, though the wine is labeled as Bordeaux AOP. The Angelus (painting)
''The Angelus'' () is an oil painting by French painter Jean-François Millet, completed between 1857 and 1859. The painting depicts two peasants in a field bowing over a basket of potatoes, while saying a prayer, the Angelus. The prayer and the ringing of the church bell mark the end of a day's work. The church is depicted on the horizon. Millet was commissioned by the American would-be painter and art collector Thomas Gold Appleton, who never came to collect it. The painting drove up the prices for artworks of the Barbizon school to record amounts in the late 19th century. History Millet said: "The idea for ''The Angelus'' came to me because I remembered that my grandmother, hearing the church bell ringing while we were working in the fields, always made us stop work to say the Angelus prayer for the poor departed." L'Angélus (band)
L'Angélus is an American band composed of four siblings, Katie, Paige, Johnny, and Stephen Rees, who play in a variety of genres, but in recent years have emphasized their Louisiana roots, performing a mixture of cajun fiddle tunes, swing, saxophone driven swamp pop, and New Orleans-influenced R&B.
