Lord
Lord is an appellation for a person or deity who has authority, control, or power over others, acting as a master, chief, or ruler. The appellation can also denote certain persons who hold a title of the peerage in the United Kingdom, or are entitled to courtesy titles. The collective "Lords" can refer to a group or body of peers. Etymology According to the Oxford Dictionary of English, the etymology of the word can be traced back to the Old English word ''hlāford'' which originated from ''hlāfweard'' meaning "loaf-ward" or "bread-keeper", reflecting the Germanic tribal custom of a chieftain providing food for his followers. The appellation "lord" is primarily applied to men, while for women the appellation " lady" is used. This is no longer universal: the Lord of Mann, a title previously held by the Queen of the United Kingdom, and female Lords Mayor are examples of women who are styled as "Lord". Historical usage Feudalism Under the feudal system, "lord" had a ...

Lord (band)
Lord (sometimes stylized as LORD) is a heavy metal band from Wollongong, Australia. The group began as a solo project for "Lord Tim" Grose of Dungeon in 2003 and expanded into a complete band when Dungeon broke up in 2005. LORD has appeared with major acts that include Queensrÿche, Nightwish, Nevermore, Saxon and Gamma Ray. The band's name is usually stylised in all capital letters. History Between 1988 and 2000, Dungeon singer/guitarist and founding member "Lord Tim" Grose had collected a number of compositions he felt were either too personal to submit to the band or inappropriate for its style. In 2003, he collected these songs on an album called '' A Personal Journey'' that was issued under the name LORD. At the end of 2005, Dungeon came to an end and LORD became a band featuring Grose and drummer Tim Yatras (also of Dungeon), along with guitarist Mav Stevens and bass player Andy Dowling from Brisbane metal band Sedition. Yatras has also been a member of several black ...

The Lord (song)
"The Lord" is a song by the Bee Gees. It was released as the B-side of "Don't Forget to Remember" in August 1969 and later included on '' Cucumber Castle'' in early 1970. Background Written by Barry and Maurice Gibb, "The Lord" is written in the style of a country gospel track with a fast-picked guitar introduction and a lyric looking forward to an eternity in Heaven and pledging to believe in The Lord till death. As none of the Gibb brothers ever professed to be Christians, it would seem that here they are aping a style rather than expressing their own beliefs. The opening chord was D, the chords at first and second verse was D and A, the chords on chorus was G, D, A7, A and D. The music video for the song was taken on the film '' Cucumber Castle''. "The Lord" was released as a B-side of "Don't Forget to Remember" in August 1969, but in Canada, "I Lay Down and Die" was the B-side. On the intro, someone says a ''Play you a song''. Recording "The Lord" was recorded around July ...

The Lord (book)
''The Lord'' (German: ''Der Herr'') is a Christological book by Romano Guardini, a Roman Catholic priest and academic. It was first published in Germany in 1937 by Werkbund-Verlag, and an English-language translation was published in 1954 by Henry Regnery Company. Synopsis In ''The Lord'', Guardini wishes to present a correct understanding of Jesus by writing about his life and person, with all the limitations which the subject necessarily imposes. Although Christ lived in a specific historical milieu, and though knowledge of the forces at work in it furthers an understanding of him, Guardini states that a biography of Christ is practicable only within the narrowest confines. Neither Jesus' personality nor his works are immediately traceable to the conditions of the times, for he came "out of the fullness of time contained in the mystery of God, and it was to this mystery that he returned after he had ''moved among us'' ()." In ''The Lord'', Guardini points to certain decisive ev ...
