L'Isle-Adam, Val-d'Oise
L'Isle-Adam () is a commune in the Val-d'Oise department in Île-de-France in northern France. The small town beside the river Oise has a long sandy beach and attracts visitors from Paris. Geography L'Isle-Adam is a commune and town in north central Val-d'Oise. It is located on the left bank of the River Oise immediately opposite the town of Parmain which is on the right bank, about northwest of Paris, north of Pontoise and south of Beauvais. It is on the northern fringe of the urban area of Paris, near the Regional Natural Park of French Vexin. The Oise borders the town on its north and west sides, and the town is partially built on three islands, the Ile du Prieuré, the Ile de la Cohue and the Ile de la Dérivation, by which there is a dam and lock. Several small streams flow through the town and there are also ponds and small lakes in the vicinity. The Château de L'Isle-Adam, now destroyed, could be found in the town of L'Isle-Adam in the department of Val-d'Oise; it was built on an island called the ''Île du Prieuré'' The building was connected with many illustrious families; the Lords of Adams, the Dukes of Villiers, the Dukes of Montmorency, the Princes of Condé and finally the Princes of Conti. It was under the Princes of Conti that the building had its golden age. They lived there for seven generations and it was their principal residence outside Paris. Philippe Villiers De L'Isle-Adam
Fra' Philippe de Villiers de L'Isle-Adam (1464 – 21 August 1534) was a prominent member of the Knights Hospitaller at Rhodes and later Malta. Having risen to the position of Prior of the ''Langue of Auvergne'', he was elected 44th Grand Master of the Order in 1521. He commanded the Order during Sultan Suleiman's long and bloody Siege of Rhodes in 1522, when 600 knights and 4500 soldiers resisted an invading force of about 100,000 men for six months,L.
