''L'ambassadrice'' is an opera or opéra comique in 3 acts by composer Daniel Auber. The work's French language libretto was written by Eugène Scribe and Jules-Henri Vernoy de Saint-Georges. The opera's world premiere was staged by the Opéra-Comique at the Théâtre des Nouveautés in Paris on 21 December 1836. Marie-Julie Halligner
Marie-Julie Boulanger, née Marie-Julie Halligner (29 January 1786 – 23 July 1850), was a French mezzo-soprano. She performed her entire career under the stage name Mme Boulanger, appearing in the world premieres of '' Le maître de chapelle'', '' L'ambassadrice'', ''Le domino noir'', and ''La fille du régiment''. Biography Born in Paris, her parents were middle-class shopkeepers. She was the older sister of Sophie Halligner, an actress at the Odéon-Théâtre de l'Europe and the Théâtre de l'Ambigu-Comique who had married the actor Frédérick Lemaître in 1826. Halligner entered the Paris Conservatory in 1806 to study ''solfeggio''; she was a pupil of Charles-Henri Plantade and Pierre-Jean Garat. Halligner's debut at the Opéra-Comique in 1811 was considered "an immense success". Salle De La Bourse
The Salle de la Bourse was a Parisian theatre located on the rue Vivienne in the 2nd arrondissement, across from the Paris Bourse, hence the name. It was successively the home of the Théâtre des Nouveautés (1827–1832), the Opéra-Comique (1832–1840), and the Théâtre du Vaudeville (1840–1869). The theatre was demolished in 1869. Théâtre des Nouveautés (1827–1832) The Salle de la Bourse was built to the designs of the French architect François Debret for the first Théâtre des Nouveautés, which opened there on 1 March 1827. The founder was Cyprien Bérard, a former director of the Théâtre du Vaudeville. Joseph-Antoine-Charles Couderc
Joseph-Antoine-Charles Couderc (10 March 1810 – 16 April 1875) was a French operatic tenor (and later baritone) prominent on the stages of the Opéra Comique in Paris where he created numerous roles. Life and career Couderc was born in Toulouse where his father had a grocery shop. He was working in his father's business when Louis Benoît Alphonse Révial (1810-1871) a tenor from Toulouse already studying at the Conservatoire de Paris convinced him to study singing and facilitated his entry to the conservatory in 1830. After studying singing there under Louis Nourrit, Couderc made his debut as Rodolphe in Boieldieu's ''Le petit chaperon de rouge'' at the Opéra-Comique in 1834. He created several roles with the company between 1834 and 1841 and was greatly admired for his acting ability. Laure Cinti-Damoreau (6 February 1801 – 25 February 1863) was a French soprano particularly associated with Rossini roles. Life and career Born Laure-Cinthie Montalant in Paris, she studied in Paris with Charles-Henri Plantade, tenor Giulio Marco Bordogni and soprano Angelica Catalani, who devised her stage name of Cinti by italianizing her middle name and engaged her at the Théâtre-Italien in Paris. French opera is one of Europe's most important operatic traditions, containing works by composers of the stature of Rameau, Berlioz, Gounod, Bizet, Massenet, Debussy, Ravel, Poulenc and Messiaen. Many foreign-born composers have played a part in the French tradition as well, including Lully, Gluck, Salieri, Cherubini, Spontini, Meyerbeer, Rossini, Donizetti, Verdi and Offenbach. Jean-François Novelli (born in 1970) is a contemporary French tenor born in Fontainebleau. Career Novelli holds a master's degree in musicology in the Sorbonne, winner of the Concours général and first prize for recorder, and turns to singing.
