L'Avion
Elysair SAS, operating as L'Avion (French for "The plane"), was an airline headquartered in Paray Vieille Poste, France, near Wissous. It operated business class-only long-haul service between Orly Airport, Paris and Newark Liberty International Airport in the USA. The airline was sold to British Airways and has since merged with OpenSkies, a wholly owned subsidiary of British Airways. History Founded by young French entrepreneur Frantz Yvelin and run by CEO Marc Rochet and Frantz Yvelin, L'Avion was the marketing name for Elysair. It had been created as Elysair but changed to use the marketing name "L'AVION" in late autumn 2006 after market research showed the new name tested well in the US and in France. OpenSkies
OpenSkies was a French airline owned by International Airlines Group (IAG) which operated under the Level (airline brand), Level brand prior to closing down, and before that operated under its own brand name. Its headquarters were located in Rungis, near Paris. The airline launched as a brand of BA European Limited in June 2008, but in April 2009 the name was transferred to Elysair (which had operated as L'Avion). The airline was a full-service carrier and offered three class service cabins on board its aircraft, operating between Orly Airport, Paris Orly Airport in France and both Newark Liberty International Airport, Newark and John F. Frantz Yvelin is a French businessman, pilot, and serial entrepreneur. He was the President (corporate title), President of Aigle Azur, France's 2nd largest airline until August 26, 2019. Frantz Yvelin previously created and ran two French independent scheduled Airlines, (La Compagnie and L'Avion). Early life and education A Commercial pilot license, commercial pilot since the age of 21, Yvelin is type-rated on Airbus A320, Boeing 737, Boeing 757, Boeing 767, Cessna Citation and McDonnell Douglas MD80. Paray-Vieille-Poste () is a commune in the Essonne department in Île-de-France in northern France. Paris-Orly Airport is partially located in the commune. History Paray-Vieille-Poste originated from the old village of Paray, which had about 60 residents in 1790. The name "Paray-Vieille-Poste" first appeared in 1923. By 1928 the population swelled to 3,000 residents. At the time streets had not yet been built, and running water had not yet been installed.
