The Kızılırmak (, Turkish for "Red River"), once known as the Halys River ( grc, Ἅλυς) and Alis River ( hy, Ալիս), is the longest river flowing entirely within Turkey. It is a source of hydroelectric power and is not used for navigation. Geography The Kızılırmak flows for a total of , rising in Eastern Anatolia around , flowing first to the west and southwest until , then forming a wide arch, the "Halys bend", flowing first to the west, then to the northwest, passing to the northeast of Lake Tuz (''Tuz Gölü'' in Turkish), then to the north and northeast, where it is joined by its major tributary, the Delice River (once known in Greek as the Cappadox river) at . Kızılırmak Delta
The Kızılırmak Delta ( tr, Kızılırmak Deltası) is the delta of the Kızılırmak River, 40 km east of Samsun. It is the biggest wetland in the Black Sea Region and is one of several internationally important Ramsar sites in Turkey on account of its rich bird and plant life. All of the first and second delta plains and most of the third delta plain is dominated by agriculture. Lakes Some of the lake water is eutrophic due to agricultural pollution. Biology Birds White stork breed here and there are many other species such as: grey-headed swamphen and great white egret. There is a bird ringing station. Kızılırmak Toothcarp
''Aphanius danfordii'', the Kızılırmak toothcarp or Sultan Sazlığı toothcarp, is a species of killifish belonging to the family Cyprinodontidae. It is endemic to the Kızılırmak River and the upper Seyhan River drainage systems and is now restricted to a few locations in the Sultan Sazlığı marshes. Though little data is available, the population of the fish seems to be declining. The International Union for Conservation of Nature has rated its conservation status as being " critically endangered" and fears it may become extinct in the wild if the drainage of the marshes continues. Distribution It is endemic to Turkey and distributes in the drainage systems of the Kızılırmak River and in the upper Seyhan River, but further investigations are needed. Erkut Kızılırmak
Erkut Kızılırmak (born 14 September 1969) is an auto racing driver from Turkey. He started racing in rallying in 1992 and switched to touring cars in 2002, at the age of 32. In 2005 he won the Turkish Touring Car Championship, in a Vauxhall Astra Coupé formerly raced by Yvan Muller in the BTCC. He also made an appearance in the Turkish round of the World Touring Car Championship in 2005 driving an ex works SEAT Toledo for the GR Asia team alongside Tom Coronel.His connections with the series and the Triple 8 Race Engineering company, increased in 2006, with Erkut becoming the first Turkish driver to compete in the BTCC when he raced at Croft in a BTC-T Vauxhall Astra Sport Hatch, converted from one of the team's show cars. He also competed at Snetterton, where he achieved his best result - 13th.
