Kwinana Nickel Refinery
The Kwinana Nickel Refinery is a nickel refinery in East Rockingham and Kwinana Beach, Western Australia. The refinery is operated by BHP and part of its Nickel West operations. Having originally been built by WMC Resources, it changed ownership in 2005 when BHP acquired WMC. Operations Kwinana is part of BHP's Nickel West operations, which includes, apart from Kwinana, the Leinster Nickel Mine, the Mount Keith Mine, the Kambalda Nickel Concentrator and the Kalgoorlie Nickel Smelter. At Kwinana, nickel matte refined into nickel powder and briquettes at a grade of 99.8 percent nickel. In late 2021, a nickel sulphate plant opened at the refinery, the first in Australia. East Rockingham, Western Australia
East Rockingham is an industrial suburb within the Kwinana Industrial Area, part of Perth, and located within the City of Rockingham. History The suburb developed as a rural community in the 1850s when various pioneers took up land and settled in the area along Mandurah Road; however, the community declined following the opening of the port at Rockingham in 1872. The Rockingham Road Board's offices were located in East Rockingham between 1905 and 1929. The Stephenson- Hepburn Plan for Perth and Fremantle (1955) identified the strategic importance of the locality for industrial development. The suburb today contains various industrial developments, with LandCorp making plans to release more land for industrial purposes. Asphyxia or asphyxiation is a condition of deficient supply of oxygen to the body which arises from abnormal breathing. Asphyxia causes generalized hypoxia, which affects primarily the tissues and organs. Lake Cooloongup
Lake Cooloongup, sometimes also referred to as White Lake, is a shallow saline lake in the suburb of Cooloongup, south of the central business district of Perth, the capital of Western Australia. It is part of Rockingham Lakes Regional Park. In the local Nyungar language, Cooloongup means "place of children". Overview The lake is bound in the east by Mandurah Road and in the west by the suburb of Cooloongup, with the reserve south of the lake stretching to Safety Bay Road, to the south of which Lake Walyungup is located. Baldivis is a semi-rural residential suburb south of Perth, and southeast of the regional centre of Rockingham. It is located within the City of Rockingham local government area. Carbon in pulp (CIP) is an extraction technique for recovery of gold which has been liberated into a cyanide solution as part of the gold cyanidation process. Introduced in the early 1980s, Carbon in Pulp is regarded as a simple and cheap process. As such it is used in most industrial applications where the presence of competing silver or copper does not prohibit its use. In the case of high (i.e., 1%) copper content, froth flotation is more typical. Activated carbon acts like a sponge to dicyanoaurate, the main soluble gold species in gold extraction technologies.
