The Kuwait Basketball Association ( ar, الاتحاد الكويتي لكرة السلة) is the Sports governing body, governing body of basketball in Kuwait. The association founded in 1957 (joined FIBA in 1959), represents basketball with public authorities as well as with national and international sports organizations and as such with Kuwait in international competitions. It also defends the moral and material interests of Basketball in Kuwait. It is affiliated with International Basketball Federation, FIBA and FIBA Asia. Kuwait City ( ar, مدينة الكويت) is the capital and largest city of Kuwait. Located at the heart of the country on the south shore of Kuwait Bay on the Persian Gulf, it is the political, cultural and economical centre of the emirate, containing Kuwait's Seif Palace, government offices, and the headquarters of most Kuwaiti corporations and banks. Kuwait Olympic Committee ( ar, اللجنة الأولمبية الكويتية, IOC code: KUW) is the National Olympic Committee representing Kuwait and organising the Kuwait Olympic team. 2010–2012 suspension The International Olympic Committee imposed a suspension on the committee with effect from 1 January 2010 due to government legislation that permits the state to interfere in elections of sporting organisations. The government had failed to meet the IOC's 31 December 2009 deadline for amending the legislation. As a result, Kuwait was barred from receiving IOC funding and its athletes and officials were banned from Olympic Games and Olympic meetings.
