Vladimir Kuts
Volodymyr Petrovych Kuts ( uk, Володимир Петрович Куц, russian: Владимир Петрович Куц, 7 February 1927 – 16 August 1975) was a Soviet long-distance runner. He won the 5000 and 10000 m races at the 1956 Olympics, setting Olympic records in both events. Biography Kuts was born in Oleksyne, Ukraine, USSR. His father died due to alcoholism when Kuts was five years old. During World War II he falsified his age and served two years with the Soviet Army as a courier. He took up running after the war, while continuing his military service as a navy sniper. In 1951 he won his first national titles, in the 5000 and 10000 m, an achievement he repeated in 1953–1956. His first international success came in 1954, when he defeated the favourites – Emil Zátopek and Christopher Chataway – in the 5000 m at the European Championships, setting a new world record. Vladimir Terentevich Kuts (russian: Владимир Терентьевич Куц; 7 November 1927 – 2 October 2022) was a Russian soldier who is thought to have been the only Soviet citizen to have served with both the Soviet Red Army and the United States Army during World War II. Background His father, Terenty Mitrofanovich Kuts, was a civil engineer who built bridges in Kashira, Krasnoyarsk and Dnepropetrovsk. In 1937, he was exiled to Norilsk for 8 years after previous charges of terrorism and anti-Soviet activities were removed. His mother worked as a laundress in the village of Veprik. The beginning of the war In 1941, the village was occupied by the Wehrmacht, and the mother and her son were forced to sell alcohol to the Germans in order to somehow earn a living. Oleksandr Ivanovych Kuts ( uk, Олександр Іванович Куць; born 30 August 1976) is a Ukrainian political military commander, a Major General, the Chief of the newly created Directorate of the Security Service of Ukraine in Donetsk and Luhansk Oblasts (21 August 2017 – 22 June 2018). He was the Head of the Office of the Security Service of Ukraine in Donetsk Oblast from March 25, 2015, to August 21, 2017. He was the Governor of Donetsk Oblast between 22 June 2018 and 5 July 2019. Ivan Kuts ( uk, Іван Олександрович Куць; born 20 January 2000) is a Ukrainian professional footballer who plays as a centre-forward for Ukrainian club Kremin Kremenchuk. Career Kremin On 5 September 2018 in a friendly match against Barsa Sumyfor Kremin U-19, Kuts scored four goals in a single match. Nikopol In early part of 2019 Kremins director Andriy Nediak sent Kuts on loan for the rest of the season to Ukrainian Second League club FC Nikopol. Club leadership felt it would be too difficult for Kuts to challenge for playing time with more experienced players in Artem Kozlov and Roman Loktionov. Return to Kremin In 2022 he moved back to Kremin Kremenchuk and in January 2023 he left the club with mutual agreement.
