Kuruvadweep or Kuruva Island is a protected river delta. It comprises three densely wooded uninhabited islands and a few submergible satellite islands, which lies on the banks of the tributaries of Kabini River in the Wayanad district, Kerala, India. It is uninhabited island, which is home to rare species of birds, orchids, herbal plants etc. These islands consists of dense and evergreen forest that is uninhabited and hence home to rare kinds of flora and fauna: endemic species of birds, orchids and herbs namely. Disparoneura Apicalis
''Disparoneura apicalis'', black-tipped bambootail is a damselfly species in the family Platycnemididae. It is endemic to Western Ghats. It was described from Kodagu, Karnataka, on the upper reaches of the Kaveri River. It is also found to occur in Kuruvadweep, Wayanad, Kerala, along the banks of Kabini River. Description and habitat It is a medium sized damselfly with reddish-brown eyes, yellowish-green beneath. Its thorax is metallic greenish-black on dorsum. There is a narrow ante-humeral brick-red stripe which get obscured by pruinescence in adults. There is also a brownish-white stripe on the sides between the lateral sutures which is also obscured by pruinescence in adults. Base of the lateral sides are well pruinosed in adults. Wings are transparent with the apices of the wings, deep blackish-brown. The pterostigma is dark reddish-brown. Wayanad District
Wayanad () is a district in the north-east of Indian state Kerala with administrative headquarters at the municipality of Kalpetta. It is the only plateau in Kerala. The Wayanad Plateau forms a continuation of the Mysore Plateau, the southern portion of Deccan Plateau. It is set high in the Western Ghats with altitudes ranging from 700 to 2100 meters. Kabini River
The Kabini River is one of the major tributaries of the river Cauvery in southern India. It originates near Kavilumpara in Kozhikode district of Kerala state by the confluence of the Panamaram River and the Mananthavady River. It flows eastward through Wayanad district, entering Mysore district of Karnataka, to join the Kaveri River in Mysore district of Karnataka Close to the town of Sargur it forms the huge Kabini Reservoir. The backwaters of the Kabini reservoir are very rich in wildlife especially in summer when the water level recedes to form rich grassy meadows. A river delta is a landform shaped like a triangle, created by deposition (geology), deposition of sediment that is carried by a river and enters slower-moving or stagnant water.
