Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club
Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club is a first-class cricket team in Sri Lanka. They made their first-class debut in 1991 against Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club at Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground in Colombo. In the 1993/94 season, they were bowled out for 31 runs in one of their innings in a match against Sinhalese Sports Club, the joint-lowest total in a first-class match in Sri Lanka. Tamil Union Cricket & Athletic Club is a first-class cricket team based in Colombo, Sri Lanka. They play their home games at P. Saravanamuttu Stadium. History The club can trace its roots back to the final years of the 19th century in which two pre-existing rival clubs amalgamated to form the Tamil Union Cricket and Athletic Club. The Club's embryonic years benefited from its stewardship by some of the country's most eminent Tamil Lawyers, Politicians and Civil Servants (see below). Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground
Nondescripts Cricket Club Ground, a first-class cricket ground in Maitland Place, Colombo, is the home ground of the Nondescripts Cricket Club. Location The ground is in the Cinnamon Gardens district of Colombo, next to the Sinhalese Sports Club Ground and across Maitland Place from the Colombo Cricket Club Ground. History Nondescripts Cricket Club, founded in 1888, moved to the ground in 1910 after reclaiming it from swampland. It first hosted first-class cricket in 1926, and has been in constant use as a first-class venue since 1989. Three One Day International matches were played there in 1986–87, and three Women's One Day Internationals in 2010–11. A new pavilion was opened in 2007. As of early December 2021, 223 first-class matches and 155 List A matches had been played at the ground. First-class Cricket
First-class cricket, along with List A cricket and Twenty20 cricket, is one of the highest-standard forms of cricket. A first-class match is one of three or more days' scheduled duration between two sides of eleven players each and is officially adjudged to be worthy of the status by virtue of the standard of the competing teams. Matches must allow for the teams to play two innings each, although in practice a team might play only one innings or none at all. The etymology of "first-class cricket" is unknown, but it was used loosely before it acquired official status in 1895, following a meeting of leading English clubs. At a meeting of the Imperial Cricket Conference (ICC) in 1947, it was formally defined on a global basis. A significant omission of the ICC ruling was any attempt to define first-class cricket retrospectively. Sinhalese Sports Club
The Singhalese Sports Club (SSC) is a first-class cricket club in Sri Lanka. Singhalese is the most successful club in Sri Lankan domestic cricket, having won the Premier Trophy a record 32 times to 2017. Although the name is correctly spelt with the old spelling "Singhalese", the name is sometimes misspelt with the modern spelling "Sinhalese". Three former Prime Ministers of Sri Lanka have been presidents of the club. History In 1899, a combined school cricket team, composed mainly of cricketers from Royal College, S. Thomas' College and Wesley College beat Colts Cricket Club by a one run. The SSC was inaugurated the same year and established as a cricket club by a group of distinguished Ceylonese lawyers, legislators, businessmen, proprietary planters and civil society leaders of that time.
