Kurumin
Kurumin Linux was a Live CD operating system based on Debian. Its main features are the advanced hardware auto-detection (inherited from Knoppix) and a Portuguese user interface, and its main goal is ease of use. As of release 7.0, the size of the disk image is approximately 603 MB. Version NG 8.06, based on Ubuntu 8.04, was released June 24, 2008, and was discontinued on January 29, 2009. Name origin and history The name comes from the Tupi word ''"curumim"'', which means boy. The usage of the letter K, instead of the usual Portuguese spelling (''"curumi"'' or ''"curumim"''), brings it in line with KDE (Kurumin's default desktop environment), as well as with Knoppix. In late 2007, Morimoto said, that the project would be halted or have its scope reduced. In November 2008, the project was officially discontinued. Carlos Morimoto
Carlos Eduardo Morimoto is the author of Kurumin, a Linux distribution based on Knoppix. It was the most popular Linux distribution in Brazil. After almost ending the project, due to many complaints from users in his forums and technical problems, mostly caused by the fact that Kurumin was based on Debian unstable, which is not targeted to non-experienced users, and was the majority of Kurumin users, Morimoto improved it and it reached its success. In 2008, Morimoto abandoned the project due to personal reasons. A new group of developers attempted to continue the project, now called "Kurumin NG", and based in Kubuntu, when Leandro Santos, the developer of Kalango Linux (another distro based in Kurumin) joined efforts with Morimoto to develop the new version of Kurumin. Poseidon Linux
Poseidon Linux is a Linux distribution, a complete operating system, originally based on Kurumin, now based on Ubuntu. It is developed and maintained by developers located at the Rio Grande Federal University in Rio Grande do Sul, Brazil, and the MARUM institute in Germany. Naming The name Poseidon was chosen after the ''God of the seas'' in Greek mythology, since a large number of oceanologists have been involved in the development of the system. History The 3.x family was pre-presented in 2008 at the 9th Free Software International Forum (FISL9.0),. It was well received by the Linux community, including Jon "maddog" Hall of Linux International. Knoppix
KNOPPIX ( ) is an operating system based on Debian designed to be run directly from a CD / DVD (Live CD) or a USB flash drive (Live USB), one of the first live operating system distributions (just after Yggdrasil Linux). Knoppix was developed by, and named after, Linux consultant Klaus Knopper. When starting a program, it is loaded from the removable medium and decompressed into a RAM drive. The decompression is transparent and on-the-fly. Although KNOPPIX is primarily designed to be used as a Live CD, it can also be installed on a hard disk like a typical operating system. Computers that support booting from USB devices can load KNOPPIX from a live USB flash drive or memory card. In computing, a desktop environment (DE) is an implementation of the desktop metaphor made of a bundle of programs running on top of a computer operating system that share a common graphical user interface (GUI), sometimes described as a graphical shell. Tupian Languages
The Tupi or Tupian language family comprises some 70 languages spoken in South America, of which the best known are Tupi language, Tupi proper and Guarani language, Guarani. Homeland and ''urheimat'' Rodrigues (2007) considers the Proto-Tupian urheimat to be somewhere between the Guaporé River, Guaporé and Aripuanã River, Aripuanã rivers, in the Madeira River basin. A disk image, in computing, is a computer file containing the contents and structure of a disk volume or of an entire data storage device, such as a hard disk drive, tape drive, floppy disk, optical disc, or USB flash drive. A disk image is usually made by creating a sector-by-sector copy of the source medium, thereby perfectly replicating the structure and contents of a storage device independent of the file system. Debian (), also known as Debian GNU/Linux, is a Linux distribution composed of free and open-source software, developed by the community-supported Debian Project, which was established by Ian Murdock on August 16, 1993. The first version of Debian (0.01) was released on September 15, 1993, and its first stable version (1.1) was released on June 17, 1996.
