Kurt Wünsche
Kurt Wünsche (14 December 1929 – 14 June 2023) was a German politician who was twice Minister of Justice of the German Democratic Republic. Biography Wünsche grew up and received his schooling in Dresden. In 1946, he became a member of the Liberal Democratic Party of Germany (LDPD), and was until 1951 an official of the LDPD local district association (''Kreisverbandes'') in Dresden and the state association (''Landesverbandes'') of Saxony. From 1951 to 1954 he was the head of the LDPD department organising the party's central executive. After the events of the 17 June 1953, he was suspected as a foreign agent and temporarily detained by the Stasi. After 1954, he was a member of the LDPD Political Committee, and a Secretary and Deputy Secretary General, while in 1967 he was made deputy chairman of the LDPD. Langenweddingen Level Crossing Disaster
The Langenweddingen rail disaster near Magdeburg in East Germany caused 94 deaths. It occurred on 6 July 1967 at the village of Langenweddingen, today part of the Sülzetal municipality, on the Magdeburg–Thale railway in the then East Germany when a Bilevel rail car, bilevel train struck a fuel tanker, which exploded as a result of the collision, at a level crossing of Bundesstraße 81, Highway 81. With an official death toll of 94 people, the disaster is considered the most serious accident in the postwar railway history of East Germany. It was also the deadliest German post-war railway accident until the Eschede train disaster of 1998, as well as one of the most disastrous accidents involving dangerous goods in German history. Lothar de Maizière (; born 2 March 1940) is a German Christian Democratic politician. In 1990, he served as the only premier of the German Democratic Republic to be democratically elected freely and fairly by the people. He was also the last leader of an independent East Germany. Family background Maizière belongs to a noble family which takes its name from Maizières-lès-Metz who, as Huguenots, fled France for asylum in Prussia in the late 17th century; the Maizière family attended French-language schools and Huguenot churches in Berlin until the beginning of the 20th century.
