Kurt Heatherley
Kurt Heatherley (born 1 January 1995) is a professional rugby union player for Jersey Reds. He previously played rugby union for Auckland and played Australian rules football for the Hawthorn Football Club in the Australian Football League (AFL). A key defender originally from Tauranga in New Zealand, Hawthorn recruited him as a sixteen year old in 2011. Early life Heatherley was born in Hamilton, New Zealand and attended St Paul's Collegiate School. He was scouted by the Hawthorn Football club recruiter Graham Wright while playing for New Zealand at the FIBA Oceania Under-16 Championship in Tasmania. Heatherley, still at school as a 16 year old, had been a competent basketball and rugby union player he was chosen for his athletic qualities, particularly his pace, jump and height. The FIBA Oceania Under-15 Championship is an under-15 basketball championship in the International Basketball Federation's Oceania zone. Since 2018, the competition previously known as FIBA Oceania Under-16 Championship, which was a qualifier for the FIBA Under-17 Basketball World Cup, is now an under-15 competition for Oceania teams to qualify to the FIBA Asia Under-16 Championship (from which they can then qualify for the World Cup). The 2015 AFL season was the 119th season of the Australian Football League (AFL), the highest level senior Australian rules football competition in Australia, which was known as the Victorian Football League until 1989. The season featured eighteen clubs, ran from 2 April until 3 October, and comprised a 22-game home-and-away season followed by a finals series featuring the top eight clubs. Box Hill Hawks Football Club is an Australian rules football club playing in the Victorian Football League. It has an alliance with the Hawthorn Football Club, which plays in the Australian Football League. Early Australian rules football in Box Hill – 1903 to 1935 Organised Australian rules football within the municipality of Box Hill can be traced back to the year 1903. Australia has named a senior Australian Football team, known as the All-Australian team since 1947. This team, however has never officially played an international Australian rules football match.
