Kurfürstendamm (film)
''Kurfürstendamm'' is a 1920 German silent drama film directed by Richard Oswald and starring Conrad Veidt, Asta Nielsen, and Erna Morena.Soister p. 103 It is set on the Kurfürstendamm in central Berlin. It is now considered a lost film. The film's sets were designed by the art director Hans Dreier. Director Oswald made this film the year after he made ''Weird Tales'' (1919), which also had starred Conrad Veidt. Cinematographer Carl Hoffmann went on to lens ''Der Januskopf'' (1920) and ''Dr. Mabuse, the Gambler'' (1922). Plot Satan (Veidt) notices that a lot of souls entering Hell from Berlin have been coming in from the city's Kurfurstendamm district. He goes there and rents an apartment, disguised as a businessman. A doctor named Li (Henry Sze) takes him on a guided tour of the neighborhood's dens of sin. After he is beaten and robbed on the street, the Devil flees back to Hell where he feels much safer. Richard Oswald
Richard Oswald (5 November 1880 – 11 September 1963) was an Austrian film director, producer, screenwriter, and father of German-American film director Gerd Oswald. Early career Richard Oswald, born in Vienna as Richard W. Ornstein, began his career as an actor on the Viennese stage. He made his film directorial debut at age 34 with ''The Iron Cross'' (1914) and worked a number of times for Jules Greenbaum. In 1916, Oswald set up his own production company in Germany, writing and directing most of his films himself. His pre-1920 efforts include such literary adaptations as ''The Picture of Dorian Gray'' (1917), '' Peer Gynt'' (1919), the once scandalous ''Different from the Others'' (1919) and ''Around the World in Eighty Days'' (1919). Oswald directed nearly 100 films. Hell
In religion and folklore, hell is a location in the afterlife in which evil souls are subjected to punitive suffering, most often through torture, as eternal punishment after death. Theodor Loos
Theodor August Konrad Loos (18 May 1883 – 27 June 1954) was a German actor. The son of a watchmaker and instruments manufacturer, he left secondary school prematurely and worked for three years at an export firm for music instruments in Leipzig, and after that for his uncle, an art dealer in Berlin. He decided though to become an actor. His theater engagements led him to Leipzig, Danzig and Frankfurt am Main, then to Berlin where he acted from 1912 to 1945 at different theaters. In the 1930s he could be seen performing in classic theater, on over 400 occasions in Peer Gynt alone. From 1913 he performed in more than 170 feature films, initially silent films. He remains perhaps best-known for his numerous roles in the films of Fritz Lang. During the Third Reich Loos was a member of the Advisory Council (Präsidialrat) of the president of the Reichsfilmkammer. After the end of the war, Loos returned to the theater. Rudolf Forster (30 October 1884 – 25 October 1968) was an Austrian film actor. He appeared in more than 100 films between 1914 and 1968.
