Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework
The Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework (GBF) is an outcome of the 2022 United Nations Biodiversity Conference. Its tentative title had been the "Post-2020 Global Biodiversity Framework". The GBF was adopted by the 15th Conference of Parties (COP15) to the Convention on Biological Diversity on 19 December, 2022. It has been promoted as a "Paris Agreement for Nature". The GBF contains 4 global goals ("Kunming-Montreal Global Goals for 2050") and 23 targets ("Kunming-Montreal 2030 Global Targets"). "Target 3" is especially referred to as the "30 by 30" target. The GBF succeeds the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020 (including the Aichi Biodiversity Targets). Kunming-Montreal Global Goals for 2050 ; GOAL A :* The integrity, connectivity and resilience of all ecosystems are maintained, enhanced, or restored, substantially increasing the area of natural ecosystems by 2050; :* Human induced extinction of known threatened species is halted, and, by 2050, extinction ...

2022 United Nations Biodiversity Conference
The 2022 United Nations Biodiversity Conference (COP15) of the Parties to the UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD) was planned to be held in April 2022 in Kunming, China, but was postponed, for a fourth time, to the third quarter of 2022 according to the UN secretariat office on March 29. It was originally scheduled to be held in October 2020, but was delayed due to the Covid-19 pandemic. In June 2022, the UN secretariat for the Convention on Biological Diversity and China’s environment ministry said in separate statements that the meeting would be held in December 2022 in Montreal, Canada, where the secretariat is based, though China would remain the president of the summit. Several cities signed the "Montreal Pledge" in advance of the conference to commit to protect biodiversity in their cities through 15 actions. During the talks, divisions remained on numerous issues as the conference went into its final days, such as disputes over the funding for conservation effo ...

Convention On Biological Diversity
The Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), known informally as the Biodiversity Convention, is a multilateral treaty. The Convention has three main goals: the conservation of biological diversity (or biodiversity); the sustainable use of its components; and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from genetic resources. Its objective is to develop national strategies for the conservation and sustainable use of biological diversity, and it is often seen as the key document regarding sustainable development. The Convention was opened for signature at the Earth Summit in Rio de Janeiro on 5 June 1992 and entered into force on 29 December 1993. The United States is the only UN member state which has not ratified the Convention. It has two supplementary agreements, the Cartagena Protocol and Nagoya Protocol. The Cartagena Protocol on Biosafety to the Convention on Biological Diversity is an international treaty governing the movements of living modified organisms ...

30 By 30
30 by 30 (or 30x30) is a worldwide initiative for governments to designate 30% of Earth's land and ocean area as protected areas by 2030. The target was proposed by a 2019 article in ''Science Advances'' "A Global Deal for Nature: Guiding principles, milestones, and targets", highlighting the need for expanded nature conservation efforts to mitigate climate change. Launched by the High Ambition Coalition for Nature and People in 2020, more than 50 nations had agreed to the initiative by January 2021, which has increased to more than 100 countries by October 2022, including Australia. 30 by 30 has been agreed at the COP15 meeting of the Convention on Biological Diversity. This includes the G7 and European Union. $5b funding called the “Protecting Our Planet Challenge” was announced for the initiative in September 2021. The initiative has attracted controversy over indigenous rights issues. European Union The European Commission's Biodiversity strategy for 2030 was prop ...
