Kukës International Airport Zayed-North Wings ( sq, Aeroporti Ndërkombëtar i Kukësit Zayed-Flatrat e Veriut, ), also referred to as Kukës International Airport Zayed ( sq, Aeroporti Ndërkombëtar i Kukësit Zayed), is an international airport in Kukës, Kukës County, Albania. The airport is located south of the city of Kukës. The main purpose of Kukës International Airport is to serve as an alternative airport to Tirana International Airport Nënë Tereza. The airport was built with United Arab Emirates investments made at the time of Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan and to honor these investments, the airport bears the name of Sheikh Zayed. Kukës ( sq-definite, Kukësi) is a city in the Republic of Albania. The city is the capital of the surrounding municipality of Kukës and county of Kukës, one of 12 constituent counties of the republic. It spans and had a total population of 16,719 people as of 2011. Geologically, the terrain of the surrounding area is dominated by mountainous and high terrain.
