Kudumbashree
Kudumbashree (കുടുംബശ്രീ) is the poverty eradication and women empowerment programme implemented by the State Poverty Eradication Mission (SPEM) of the Government of Kerala. Etymology and common name The word Kutumbashree is written as ''Kudumbashree ( which may be pronounced കുടുംബശ്രീ in Malayalam)'' in all official documents. In Malayalam language, the name Kutumbashree means 'Prosperity of the family'. The name is also used to refer to a community network in Kerala having a three-tier structure. The Neighbourhood Groups (NHGs) are the primary level units of this network, the next level being Area Development Societies (ADS) functioning at the ward level, and the top level being the Community Development Societies (CDS). History In 1998, Kutumbashree for the empowerment of women, was launched by the E. K. Nayanar Government. Kudumbashree National Resource Organisation
In 2012, Kudumbashree was recognized as a National Resource Organisation (NRO) by Ministry of Rural Development (India), Ministry of Rural Development (MoRD), Government of India, under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM) to provide support to other States in their poverty eradication efforts. Subsequently, Kudumbashree NRO signed Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) with 9 States (Assam, Bihar, Gujarat, Jharkhand, Karnataka, Maharashtra, Odisha, Rajasthan and Sikkim) to provide technical and implementation support to their State Rural Livelihood Missions (SRLMs) for the adaption of Kudumbashree’s best practices. Kudumbashree NRO provides assistance to States in undertaking pilot interventions under the Enterprises project and Panchayati Raj Institutions – Community Based Organisations (PRI-CBO) Convergence Project. Dwaipayan Bhattacharyya
Dwaipayan Bhattacharyya is an Indian political scientist. He is a professor at Centre for Political Studies, Jawaharlal Nehru University. Education Dwaipayan did his PhD on ''Agrarian reforms and the politics of the left in West Bengal'' from University of Cambridge. Career Dwaipayan Bhattacharyya taught political science at Jawaharlal Nehru University (from1994-2002 and 2016–present) and at Centre for Studies in Social Sciences, Calcutta (2002-2015). He specialises in Indian politics, Left politics, analysis of power and institutions, and social hierarchies. He has held visiting positions at Claremont University, USA; Massey University, New Zealand; and Göttingen University, Germany. Rural Development Organisations In India
In general, a rural area or a countryside is a geographic area that is located outside towns and cities. Typical rural areas have a low population density and small settlements. Agricultural areas and areas with forestry typically are described as rural. Different countries have varying definitions of ''rural'' for statistical and administrative purposes. In rural areas, because of their unique economic and social dynamics, and relationship to land-based industry such as agriculture, forestry and resource extraction, the economics are very different from cities and can be subject to boom and bust cycles and vulnerability to extreme weather or natural disasters, such as droughts. Poverty In India
India is a developing nation. Although its economy is growing, poverty is still a major challenge. However, poverty is on the decline in India. According to an International Monetary Fund paper, extreme poverty, defined by the World Bank as living on US$1.9 or less in purchasing power parity (PPP) terms, in India was as low as 0.8% in 2019 and the country managed to keep it at that level in 2020 despite the unprecedented COVID-19 outbreak. According to World Bank, extreme poverty has reduced by 12.3% between 2011 and 2019 from 22.5% in 2011 to 10.2% in 2019. A working paper of the bank said rural poverty declined from 26.3% in 2011 to 11.6% in 2019. The decline in urban areas was from 14.2% to 6.3% in the same period.The poverty level in rural and urban areas went down by 14.7 and 7.9 percentage points, respectively.
