The Universiade is an international multi-sport event, organized for university athletes by the International University Sports Federation (FISU). The name is a portmanteau of the words "University" and "Olympiad". The 2011–12 EHF Women's Cup Winners' Cup is the 36th edition of the EHF Women's Cup Winners' Cup, the continental event for domestic cup winners in Europe. The European Handball Federation (EHF) is the umbrella organisation for European handball. Founded on 17 November 1991, it is made of 50 member federations and two associated federations (England and Scotland), and is headquartered in Vienna, Austria.
