Yuriy Hryhorovych Kryvoruchko ( uk, Юрій Григорович Криворучко; born 19 December 1986) is a Ukrainian chess player. He was awarded the title of Grandmaster by FIDE in 2006. Kryvoruchko was Ukrainian champion in 2013. He competed in the FIDE World Cup in 2009 and 2013. Career Born in Lviv, Kryvoruchko was 5 years old when he was taught how to play chess by his father. He entered his first tournaments at age 7. He came third in the 2004 European Youth Chess Championship in Ürgüp and in the 2006 World Junior Chess Championship in Yerevan. In 2008 he tied for 1st–8th places with Vugar Gashimov, David Arutinian, Sergey Fedorchuk, Konstantin Chernyshov, Andrei Deviatkin, Vasilios Kotronias and Erwin L'Ami in the Cappelle-la-Grande Open tournament. Yuriy Zenoviiovych Kryvoruchko ( uk, Юрій Зеновійович Криворучко; born 14 July 1966) is a Ukrainian politician and activist who served as a People's Deputy of Ukraine from Ukraine's 118th electoral district (located in Lviv Oblast from 1998 to 2002, and later as a People's Deputy from the proportional list of the Our Ukraine Bloc from 2005 to 2006. Ukrainian Surname
By the 18th century almost all Ukrainians had family names. Most Ukrainian surnames (and surnames in Slavic languages in general) are formed by adding possessive and other suffixes to given names, place names, professions and other words. Surnames were developed for official documents or business record keeping to differentiate the parties who might have the same first name. By the 15th century, surnames were used by the upper class, nobles and large land owners. In cities and towns, surnames became necessary in the 15th and 16th centuries. In 1632, Orthodox Metropolitan Petro Mohyla ordered priests to include a surname in all records of birth, marriage and death.
