Kryptolebias
''Kryptolebias'' is a genus of killifish in the family Rivulidae mostly native to warm parts of South America but with one species (''K. marmoratus'') found north through the Caribbean region to the Gulf Coast states of the United States. They are small fish, up to in total length. They are non-annual killifish. The genus was originally name ''Cryptolebias'' but this name was pre-occupied by a genus of fossil fish. Species There are currently 8 recognized species in this genus: * ''Kryptolebias brasiliensis'' Valenciennes, 1821 * '' Kryptolebias campelloi'' W. J. E. M. Costa, 1990 * ''Kryptolebias caudomarginatus'' Seegers, 1984 * ''Kryptolebias gracilis'' W. J. E. M. Costa, 2007 * ''Kryptolebias hermaphroditus'' W. J. E. M. Kryptolebias Marmoratus
The mangrove killifish or mangrove rivulus, ''Kryptolebias marmoratus'' ( syn. ''Rivulus marmoratus''), is a species of killifish in the family Rivulidae. It lives in brackish and marine waters (less frequently in fresh water) along the coasts of Florida, through the Antilles, and along the eastern and northern Atlantic coasts of Mexico, Central America and South America (south to Brazil). It has a very wide tolerance of both salinity (0—68 ‰)Bester, CMangrove Rivulus.Florida Museum. Retrieved 6 May 2017. and temperature (),Hill, K Smithsonian Marine Station at Fort Pierce. Retrieved 6 May 2017. can survive for about two months on land, and mostly breeds by self-fertilization. It is typically found in areas with red mangrove and sometimes lives in burrows of ''Cardisoma guanhumi'' crabs. The mangrove rivulus is up to long, but most individuals are . Rivulidae
The Rivulidae are a family of killifishes in the order Cyprinodontiformes. They are commonly known as rivulids, South American killifish or New World killifish. The latter names are slightly misleading, however, as they are neither restricted to South America – though most are in fact found there –, nor are they the only killifishes from the Americas. Occasionally, they are still referred to as rivulines, a term dating back to when they were considered a subfamily of the Aplocheilidae. The subfamilial name "Rivulinae" was already established for noctuid moths by Augustus Radcliffe Grote in 1895. That name, though it is the senior homonym, may be suppressed because the name Rivulinae for the fish subfamily is widespread, whereas the moth taxon is little used. The use of Rivulidae as the name for this family may need to be ruled in by the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature. The alternative family-group name Cynolebiidae Hoedeman 1961 has been proposed a ...

Killifish
A killifish is any of various oviparous (egg-laying) cyprinodontiform fish (including families Aplocheilidae, Cyprinodontidae, Fundulidae, Profundulidae and Valenciidae). All together, there are 1,270 species of killifish, the biggest family being Rivulidae, containing more than 320 species. As an adaptation to living in ephemeral waters, the eggs of most killifish can survive periods of partial dehydration. Many of the species rely on such a diapause, since the eggs would not survive more than a few weeks if entirely submerged in water. The adults of some species, such as ''Kryptolebias marmoratus'', can additionally survive out of the water for several weeks. Most killies are small fish, from , with the largest species growing to just under . The word ''killifish'' is of uncertain origin, but is likely to have come from the Dutch ''kil'' for a kill (small stream). Although ''killifish'' is sometimes used as an English equivalent to the taxonomical term ''Cyprinodontidae'', s ...

Total Length
Fish measurement is the measuring of individual fish and various parts of their anatomies. These data are used in many areas of ichthyology, including taxonomy and fisheries biology. Overall length * Standard length (SL) is the length of a fish measured from the tip of the snout to the posterior end of the last vertebra or to the posterior end of the midlateral portion of the hypural plate. Simply put, this measurement excludes the length of the caudal (tail) fin. * Total length (TL) is the length of a fish measured from the tip of the snout to the tip of the longer lobe of the caudal fin, usually measured with the lobes compressed along the midline. It is a straight-line measure, not measured over the curve of the body. Standard length measurements are used with Teleostei (most bony fish), while total length measurements are used with Myxini (hagfish), Petromyzontiformes (lampreys), and (usually) Elasmobranchii (sharks and rays), as well as some other fishes. Total length me ...
