s-Hertogenbosch (, french: Bois-le-Duc, ; german: Herzogenbusch), colloquially known as Den Bosch (), is a city and municipality in the Netherlands with a population of 160,783. It is the capital of the province of North Brabant and its fourth largest city by population. The city is south of the Maas river and near the Waal. History The city's official name is a contraction of the (archaic) Dutch  — . The duke in question was Henry I, Duke of Brabant, whose family had owned a large estate at nearby Orthen for at least four centuries. Rosmalen () is a town in the province of North Brabant, in the south of the Netherlands. The town is located 6 kilometers east of the city of 's-Hertogenbosch (Den Bosch) and has been part of that Municipalities of the Netherlands, municipality since 1996. Its population is around 37,240 on 1 January 2021. In 2005 the town began construction of a new neighbourhood, (named after the large Kolk (vortex), kolks in the area created by flood water), to include 5,000 homes and other buildings.
