Kronach (Haßlach)
The Kronach is a river in Upper Franconia, Bavaria, Germany. It is about long and is formed from the confluence of the rivers Kremnitz and Grümpel, south of Wilhelmsthal. Including its source rivers Kremnitz and Finsterbach, it is long. From there it flows in a generally southerly direction to its confluence with the Haßlach at the town of Kronach. The ST2200 road, which connects those two places, follows its valley. Kronach (East Franconian: ''Gronich'') is a town in Upper Franconia, Germany, located in the Frankenwald area. It is the capital of the district Kronach. Kronach is the birthplace of Lucas Cranach the Elder and Maximilian von Welsch, as well as Johann Kaspar Zeuss and bishop Josef Stangl. The town is equipped with a nearly complete city wall and Germany's biggest and most complete early modern fortress, Rosenberg Fortress. The headquarters of German television and AV equipment manufacturer, Loewe, is located there. Geography Location Kronach is located at the southwestern edge of the Franconian Forest. 2013 European Floods
Extreme flooding in Central Europe began after several days of heavy rain in late May and early June 2013. Flooding and damages primarily affected south and east German states (Thuringia, Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt, Lower Saxony, Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg), western regions of the Czech Republic (Bohemia), and Austria. In addition, Slovakia, Poland and Hungary were affected to a lesser extent. The flood crest progressed down the Elbe and Danube drainage basins and tributaries, leading to high water and flooding along their banks. Meteorological history The spring weather preceding the flooding had been wet in the region, and May 2013 had been one of the three wettest in the last 156 years in Austria, together with the years 1962 and 1965.
