Kristy Marmorato
Kristy Marmorato (; born August 18, 1978) is an American healthcare professional and politician from the neighborhood of Throggs Neck in The Bronx, New York. Marmorato was elected as the first Republican to be sent from the Bronx to the New York City Council in over 40 years, beating incumbent Democrat Marjorie Velázquez in the November 7, 2023 general election. Early life Marmorato was born, raised, and educated in The Bronx. She grew up in Throggs Neck and as an adult lived in both Pelham Bay and Country Club. She currently resides in Morris Park. Career In her 2023 campaign for the New York City Council, Marmorato ran on a tough-on-crime and anti- upzoning message. Marjorie Velázquez (born August 11, 1981) is an American politician from New York City. A Democrat, Velázquez is currently a member of the New York City Council representing the 13th district, which covers parts of the eastern Bronx. Early life Velázquez was born in the Bronx to Puerto Rican parents who had moved to New York City in the 1970s. She graduated from St. Catharine Academy and received her B.A. in finance and accounting from the New York University Stern School of Business. Political career Pre-Council career After working for several years in accounting and corporate finance, Velázquez suffered serious injures in a 2012 car accident. Pelham Bay Park is a municipal park located in the northeast corner of the New York City borough of the Bronx. It is, at , the largest public park in New York City. The park is more than three times the size of Manhattan's Central Park. The park is operated by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation (NYC Parks).
