Kristo Rai Church
The Kristo Rai Church (or Christ the King Church, from Spanish ''Iglesia de Cristo Rey'') is a Roman Catholic church in the street Kopa Di Oru of the town of Garapan in the Northern Marianas Islands, a dependent territory of the United States in the Pacific Ocean, part of Oceania. The parish is under the jurisdiction of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Chalan Kanoa (''Dioecesis Vialembensis''). It was first built by the Spanish in 1876 but was terminated by the Germans in the twentieth century church. After World War II much of the city was destroyed and the original church had to be demolished. A new building was built between 1969 and 1970. The church dedicated to Christ the King was completed in 1978. Garapan
Garapan ( Old Japanese name: 柄帆町, ''Garapan-chō'') is the largest village and the center of the tourism industry on the island of Saipan, which is a part of the United States Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands (CNMI). Garapan, as a census-designated place, has an area of and a population of 3,588 (census of population, 2000). Description Garapan is located on Saipan's west coast and is home to the majority of the island's major hotels and the American Memorial Park, which honors American soldiers who died during the Battle of Saipan. Micro Beach, one of Saipan's more famous beaches, sits adjacent to the American Memorial Park and has turquoise waters with a fine white, sandy shore. Numerous shops, restaurants, and one of the CNMI's largest elementary schools, Garapan Elementary School, is located here. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Chalan Kanoa ( la, Diœcesis Vialembensis) is an ecclesiastical territory or diocese of the Catholic Church in the United States. It comprises the territory of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands and is a suffragan of the Metropolitan Archdiocese of Agaña.
