''Kristine Valdresdatter'' is a Norwegian silent film from 1930. This was the last silent film produced in NorwayIversen, Gunnar. 2005. Norway. In: Tytti Soila, Gunnar Iverson, & Astrid Söderbergh Widding (eds.). ''Nordic National Cinemas'', pp. 97–134. London: Routledge, p. 103. and it was directed by Rasmus Breistein. Breistein also wrote the script, which was based on Hans Andersen Foss's novel ''Kristine: En fortælling fra Valdres'' (Kristine: A Tale from Valdres). The film premiered on 26 December 1930 and it has been aired several times by NRK. Plot Every year, Lord Wakefield comes to Vang, Oppland, Vang in the Valdres district to go fishing on the lakes. He stays at the Solbjør farm, which is owned by the bailiff Erik Solbjør. There the lord meets the beautiful Anne and falls in love with her. The next spring she gives birth to a daughter. Rasmus Breistein
Rasmus Breistein (November 16, 1890 – October 16, 1976) was a Norwegian film director.Sundholm, John et al. ''Historical Dictionary of Scandinavian Cinema''. Lanham, MD: The Scarecrow Press, p. 88. Life Breistein was born in Åsane in the city of Bergen in Hordaland county, Norway. He was a farmer's son and learned to play fiddle in his youth, playing for dances at weddings in Western Norway. Later in life, in addition to directing films, he also performed on the Hardanger fiddle. When the Norwegian Theater opened in 1913, he started acting at the theater. He became engaged with the new medium of film after seeing Peter Lykke-Seest's productions, and he decided to produce films in a completely different way. His first film was '' Fante-Anne'' (Gypsy Anne, 1920). In an interview he stated that "the film was the beginning of something, a Norwegian production with a more national character." Valdres
Valdres () is a traditional district in central, southern Norway, situated between the districts of Gudbrandsdalen and Hallingdal. The region of Valdres consists of the six municipalities of Nord-Aurdal, Sør-Aurdal, Øystre Slidre, Vestre Slidre, Vang and Etnedal. Valdres has about 18,000 inhabitants and is known for its excellent trout fishing and the local dialect. Its main road is E16 and Fylkesveg 51. Valdres is located approximately midway between Oslo and Bergen. The valley is protected to the west and north by the Jotunheimen mountains and the Valdresflye plateau and to the south by the Gol mountain ridge (''Golsfjellet'').
