Kristine Bartlett
Kristine Robyn Bartlett is an aged care worker from Lower Hutt, New Zealand. In 2012, Bartlett lodged an application with the Employment Relations Authority that she was not receiving equal pay as per the Equal Pay Act of 1972. She argued she had worked for 20 years for very low pay because aged care work is largely performed by women. Over the next five years, Bartlett's case, '' Terranova Homes & Care Limited v Service and Food Workers Union Nga Ringa Tota Incorporated'', was heard by New Zealand's Employment Court, Court of Appeal and Supreme Court. In 2017, a settlement was reached which raised wages for workers in residential aged care, disability support services and home support services. In 2017, Bartlett won the NEXT Woman of the Year Supreme Award. Supreme Court Of New Zealand
The Supreme Court of New Zealand ( mi, Te Kōti Mana Nui, lit=Court of Great Mana) is the highest court and the court of last resort of New Zealand. It formally came into being on 1 January 2004 and sat for the first time on 1 July 2004. It replaced the right of appeal to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, based in London. It was created with the passing of the Supreme Court Act 2003, on 15 October 2003. At the time, the creation of the Supreme Court and the abolition of appeals to the Privy Council were controversial constitutional changes in New Zealand. The Supreme Court Act 2003 was repealed on 1 March 2017 and superseded by the Senior Courts Act 2016.
