Latvian ( ), also known as Lettish, is an Eastern Baltic language belonging to the Baltic branch of the Indo-European language family, spoken in the Baltic region. It is the language of Latvians and the official language of Latvia as well as one of the official languages of the European Union. There are about 1.3 million native Latvian speakers in Latvia and 100,000 abroad. Altogether, 2 million, or 80% of the population of Latvia, speak Latvian. Kristine Bonnevie
Kristine Elisabeth Heuch Bonnevie (8 October 1872 – 30 August 1948) was a Norwegian biologist, Norway's first female professor, women's rights activist and politician for the Free-minded Liberal Party. Her fields of research were cytology, genetics and embryology. She was among the first women to be elected to political positions in Norway. Personal life She was the fifth of seven children to Jacob Aall Bonnevie (1838–1904) and Anne Johanne Daae (1839–1876). Jacob Aall Bonnevie had his eighth and ninth children with his second wife Susanne Bryn (1848–1927). Her family moved from Trondhjem to Kristiania in 1886. Her father was opposed to women in academia and meant that women's place was in the home. However, these view did not prevent her from studying. Bonnevie never married. Kristine Elizabeth Moore Gebbie (June 26, 1943 – May 17, 2022) was an American academic and public health official working as a professor at the Flinders University School of Nursing & Midwifery in Adelaide, Australia. Gebbie previously served as the AIDS Policy Coordinator (or " AIDS Czar") from 1993 to 1994. Early life and education Gebbie was born in Sioux City, Iowa on June 26, 1943, the daughter of Irene (Stewart), who worked for the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, and Thomas Moore, a career officer in the Army. Kristīne Gaile (born 26 January 1997) with her twin sister Ieva Gaile are Latvia, Latvian figure skaters. She was born in Jelgava, Latvia, where she started her skating career at the age of four. After two years she switched her coaches and started training in Ventspils, Latvia. She mainly skated in the ladies singles category, but in 2012 she and her twin sister were part of Latvian Synchronized skating team "Amber" and they participated in the World Synchronized Skating Championship 2012 (ISU World Synchronized Skating Championships, WSSC). In 2015, she switched coaches and started training in Jelgava, Latvia. She rejoined Synchronized skating team "Amber" in 2015.
