Kristin Andrews
Kristin Alexandra Andrews is Professor in the Department of Philosophy at York University and she holds the York Research Chair in Animal Minds. Early life and education Andrews attended Antioch College and conducted co-op research at the Kewalo Basin Marine Mammal Laboratory in Hawaii. After earning her Bachelor of Arts, she moved to Western Michigan University for her Master's degree where her first article was published in Etica et Animali. Career After earning her PhD from the University of Minnesota under the supervision of Ronald Giere, she became an assistant professor of philosophy at Appalachian State University from July 2000 until June 2002. Andrews joined the faculty at York University following encouragement from York Psychology Professor Anne E. Russon. She received the Western Michigan University Distinguished Alumni Award in 2011. Antioch College
Antioch College is a private liberal arts college in Yellow Springs, Ohio. Founded in 1850 by the Christian Connection, the college began operating in 1852 as a non-sectarian institution; politician and education reformer Horace Mann was its first president. The college has been politically liberal and reformist since its inception. It was the fourth college in the country to admit African-American students on an equal basis with whites. It has had a tumultuous financial and corporative history, closing repeatedly, for years at a time, until new funding was assembled. Antioch College began opening new campuses in 1964, when it purchased the Putney School of Education in Vermont. Eventually it opened over 38 different campuses, and in 1978 it changed its name to Antioch University. Jonathan Birch (philosopher)
Jonathan Birch is a British philosopher who is a Professor in the Department of Philosophy Logic and Scientific Method at the London School of Economics and Political Science. His work addresses the philosophy of biology, especially questions around the evolution of social behaviour and social norms, sentience, and animal welfare. Career Birch read for a BA (Hons) in Natural Sciences (Cambridge), Natural Sciences at the University of Cambridge from 2005 to 2008, and then an MPhil in History and Philosophy of Science at Cambridge from 2008 to 2009. He read for a PhD in the Philosophy of Science at Cambridge from 2009 to 2013. His thesis, which was supervised by Tim Lewens, was entitled ''Kin Selection: A Philosophical Analysis''. From 2012 to 2014, Birch held a Junior Research Fellowships, Junior Research Fellowship at Christ's College, Cambridge. He was awarded a Philip Leverhulme Prize in 2014.
