Krishan Maheson
Krishan Maheson (born 4 May 1983), known as Krishan, is a rap artist from Sri Lanka. Krishan specialises in rap music, and is one of the pioneer Tamil rap artists in the world. Krishan helped start the Tamil rap scene in Sri Lanka, together with his brother, Gajan, and fellow MC Yauwanan. Krishan migrated to Darwin, Australia in 2018 which makes another legendary Sri Lankan Tamil artist leaving the country. History Krishan was founding member of Urban Sound with his brother, Gajan; together the duo released “Smooth Flow” in 1998. The duo was influenced by local hip hop legends Brown Boogie Nation and Rude Boy Republic. Being mentored by Brown Boogie Nation, the duo released several english rap singles, and developed a following in Colombo. Rapping (also rhyming, spitting, emceeing or MCing) is a musical form of vocal delivery that incorporates "rhyme, rhythmic speech, and street vernacular". Sri Lankan Hip Hop is a part of the Asian hip hop culture. This multilingual genre features Sinhala, Tamil and English. History The first hip hop artists in Sri Lanka to gain popular recognition were Brown Boogie Nation (a G-funk-style group, composed of Subodha Pilimatalawwe, Nishan Dias Weerasinghe and Randhir Witana) and Rude Boy Republic (a Rude boy-style group, composed of Asif Ansar, Shiraz and Rukshan Dole) Backing beats and production by Mel "Herbie" Kent (UK). Bathiya And Santhush
Bathiya & Santhush ( si, භාතිය හා සන්තුෂ්), also known as BNS, are a Sri Lankan pop duo consisting of Bathiya Jayakody (born on December 22, 1976) and Santhush Weeraman (born on September 5, 1977), who met while at the "Mary Anne David School of Vocal Music" in Colombo (training mainly under the categories of classical and show tunes). They both were born in Colombo, Sri Lanka. They have been one of the most commercially successful music acts in Sri Lanka in the last two decades. Iraj Weeraratne (born 21 February 1981) is a Sinhalese R&B and hip hop artist and music producer. Weeraratne had a television show on Derana TV called "Iraj Show". He is known as a prominent hip-hop and RnB artist in Sri Lanka. He was the first person to introduce Sinhala rap as well as Tamil rap to Sri Lanka in 2004. His first South Indian composition together with Vijay Anthony featured in the movie Veittakarran starring Kollywood star Vijay and was ranked number one in the Chennai Charts.
