Kris Austin
Kris Austin (born 1979) is the former leader of the People's Alliance of New Brunswick and current member of the Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick and an MLA in the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick. On October 13, 2022 he was appointed minister of public safety and solicitor-general by Premier Blaine Higgs. Austin led the People's Alliance into the 2010 provincial election and 2014 provincial elections in which the party won no seats. In the 2018 provincial election the party won three seats including Austin's riding of Fredericton-Grand Lake. He was re-elected in the 2020 provincial election in which his party lost one seat, electing two MLAs. On March 30, 2022, Austin announced he will be leaving the People's Alliance of New Brunswick to join the Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick. 2020 New Brunswick General Election
The 2020 New Brunswick general election was held on September 14, 2020, to elect members of the 60th New Brunswick Legislature. The Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick, led by Blaine Higgs, won a majority government. The writs of election were issued by Lieutenant Governor Brenda Murphy on August 17, 2020, after a request was made by Premier Blaine Higgs to dissolve the legislature. The election was scheduled to take place on October 17, 2022, as determined by the fixed-date provisions of the ''Legislative Assembly Act'', which requires a general election to be held every four years on the third Monday in October. However, Premier Higgs called a snap election after negotiations failed with the other parties that would have avoided an election until the fixed date in 2022 or the end of the COVID-19 pandemic. Ross Wetmore
Frederick Ross Wetmore (born April 3, 1953) is a Canadian politician who was elected to the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick in the 2010 provincial election. He represents the electoral district of Gagetown-Petitcodiac (formerly Grand Lake-Gagetown) as a member of the Progressive Conservatives. From 2018 to 2020 he was Minister of Agriculture, Aquaculture, and Fisheries in the Higgs government. Wetmore was born in Campbellton, New Brunswick. In 1979, he started a meat cutting business in Burton, and eventually expanded to a very successful grocery store in Gagetown. Fredericton-Fort Nashwaak was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. It was first created in the 2006 redrawing of electoral districts and was first used in the general election later that year. Its last MLA was Pam Lynch of the Progressive Conservative Party of New Brunswick. History The district was created in the 2006 redistribution although, somewhat confusingly, a district by the same name existed immediately prior to this. Grand Lake-Gagetown was a provincial electoral district for the Legislative Assembly of New Brunswick, Canada. It was first created in the 2006 redrawing of electoral districts and was first used in the general election later that year. Its last MLA was Ross Wetmore. History It was created in 2006 from parts of Grand Lake and Oromocto-Gagetown. From Grand Lake, it took Chipman, Minto and other communities around the Grand Lake area, however large portions of the district—both in terms of geographics with large forested areas in the west of the district and in terms of population with suburban areas just outside of Fredericton—were lost to the district of Fredericton-Fort Nashwaak.
