Kranji Racecourse
The Singapore Racecourse/ Singapore Turf Club is a venue for thoroughbred horse racing, situated in Kranji, next to the Kranji MRT station. Built and operated by the Singapore Turf Club, it opened on 4 March 2000, replacing the Bukit Timah Race Course. Singapore Turf Club
The Singapore Turf Club was founded in 1842 as the Singapore Sporting Club to operate the Serangoon Road Race Course at Farrer Park Field. It is the only horse-racing club in Singapore and is part of the Malayan Racing Association. The first race was held on 23 February 1843 with a prize money of $150. Singapore Airlines International Cup
The Singapore Airlines International Cup was a Group 1 flat horse race in Singapore which is open to thoroughbreds aged three years or older. It is run at Kranji over a distance of 2,000 metres (about 1¼ miles), and it is scheduled to take place each year in May. It has been discontinued to run from 2016 onwards. It was established as an international event at the newly opened Kranji Racecourse in 2000. This was after the Singapore Derby had lost its international status, and was restricted to domestic horses only. The event has been sponsored by Singapore Airlines since its inception, and it attained Group 1 status in 2002. In 2015, the Cup was discontinued. The KrisFlyer International Sprint is a former Thoroughbred horse race held at Kranji Racecourse in Singapore. Singapore Derby
The Singapore Derby is a thoroughbred horse race held annually in mid July at the Singapore Turf Club. Contested on turf over a left-handed course, the domestic Group 1 race is run over a distance 1,800 metres (9 furlongs) and is open to four-year-old horses only. Inaugurated in 1880 at the Serangoon Road Race Course at Farrer Park, it was raced there until 1910 at which time it was cancelled. The Singapore Derby was revived in 1959 under the auspices of the Singapore Turf Club and hosted by the Bukit Timah Race Course through 1999 when the track was closed to be replaced by the new Singapore Turf Club. Kranji Mile
The Kranji Mile is a thoroughbred horse race held annually in May at Singapore Turf Club. The race was first introduced in 2000. Contested on turf over a left-handed course, the domestic Group 1 race (also an International Group 3 race recognised in The Blue Book by the International Federation of Horseracing) is run over a distance 1,600 metres (8 furlongs) and is open to horses age three and older. In 2018, it was revamped as an invitational race but since 2020, has been open to local runners only due to races being conducted behind closed doors. Raffles Cup
The Raffles Cup is a Thoroughbred horse race held annually in the first week of November at Kranji Racecourse in Singapore. Contested on turf over a left-handed course, the domestic Group One race is run over a distance of 1800 metres (1.12 miles / 9 furlongs) and is open to horses age three and older. The Raffles Cup was inaugurated in 1991 at the Bukit Timah Race Course and raced there through 1999 when the track was closed to be replaced by the new Kranji Racecourse. It was raced at 1600 metres from 1991 through 2000 then in 2001 it was changed to its present distance of 1800 metres. The Singapore Gold Cup is a thoroughbred horse race held annually in November at Singapore Turf Club. Contested on turf over a left-handed course, the domestic Group 1 race is run over a distance of 2,000 metres and is open to local horses age three and older. The Thoroughbred is a horse breed best known for its use in horse racing. Although the word ''thoroughbred'' is sometimes used to refer to any breed of purebred horse, it technically refers only to the Thoroughbred breed.
