Kraich Valley Railway
The Kraich Valley Railway (german: Kraichtalbahn) is a branch line in southwestern Germany running from Bruchsal to Menzingen. It is now integrated as line 32 of the Karlsruhe Stadtbahn. Route The Kraich Valley Railway runs from Bruchsal in the Kraichgau. Its name is derived from the Kraichbach stream, whose course it follows from Ubstadt to Gochsheim, as well as the town of Kraichtal, to which all the settlements on the line belong apart from Bruchsal and Ubstadt. It lies entirely within the district of Karlsruhe. Because the railway line largely follows the aforementioned river valley there are no large structures like tunnels or noteworthy bridges. Bretten Station
Bretten station is the centre of rail transport in the town of Bretten in the German state of Baden-Württemberg. The Württemberg Western Railway and the Kraichgau line cross at the station. History Bretten station was opened on 1 October 1853 as part of the construction of Western Railway from Stuttgart to Bruchsal. In the late 1870s, the Kraichgau Railway was opened from Karlsruhe to Heilbronn, creating a railway junction. At the same time the station was moved from near the town centre to its present location at the junction to the west of the town centre. The Western Railway through Bretten station was electrified in the 1950s. When Karlsruhe Stadtbahn services opened on the Kraichgau Railway to Bretten-Gölshausen on 25 September 1992, along with the electrification of the Kraichgau Railway, this first two-system light railway (tram-train) line was called line B. Maschinenfabrik Esslingen (ME), was a German engineering firm that manufactured locomotives, tramways, railway wagons, roll-blocks, technical equipment for the railways, (turntables and traversers), bridges, steel structures, pumps and boilers. Founding It was founded by Emil Kessler on 11 March 1846 in Stuttgart, as a result of an initiative of the Kingdom of Württemberg to create a railway industry that was not dependent on foreign manufacturers. Emil Kessler brought vital experience from his time with the engineering works in Karlsruhe, where he had been a member of the board since 1837 and the sole director since 1842. ''Waggon Union'' was a German manufacturer of rail vehicles and bus bodies, that was also known as ''Deutsche Waggon und Maschinenfabrik'' (German Wagon and Machines Factory) or DWM. Deutsche Bundesbahn
The Deutsche Bundesbahn or DB (German Federal Railway) was formed as the state railway of the newly established Federal Republic of Germany (FRG) on 7 September 1949 as a successor of the Deutsche Reichsbahn-Gesellschaft (DRG). The DB remained the state railway of West Germany until after German reunification, when it was merged with the former East German Deutsche Reichsbahn (DR) to form Deutsche Bahn, which came into existence on 1 January 1994. German Railway Operating Company
The German Railway Operating Company (German: ''Deutsche Eisenbahn-Betriebs-Gesellschaft'') or DEBG was a public limited company (''Aktiengesellschaft'') that was founded on 15 November 1898 in Berlin. It was founded by the Vering & Waechter railway construction and operating company, the firm of Doertenbach & Co and the Central German Credit Bank (''Mitteldeutsche Creditbank''). Acquisition of branch lines The DEBG immediately took over from Vering & Waechter the running powers for twelve branch lines with a total length of 184 km. These included seven railways of foreign owners in all parts of the German Reich, however these were given up again in the years that followed.
