Kosovo Ballet
Kosovo Ballet was established in 1972. Since its inception, there have been two main generations of the company. They are known as the "First Generation" and the "Second Generation", which is also known as the new generation. The First Generation refers to the founding members of Kosovo Ballet who performed with the company until its forced disbanding. The Second Generation refers to the group of dancers who trained under Ahmet Brahimaj to reform Kosovo Ballet following the Yugoslav Wars. First Generation Ballet dancers from the First Generation were educated at the Secondary School of Ballet in Skopje, under the direction oTatjana Petkovska Following their graduation, 25 dancers from this class returned to Pristina where they formed the official first generation of The Kosovo Ballet within the National Theatre of Kosovo. Kosovo is a partially recognized state and disputed territory located in the Balkan Peninsula in Southeastern Europe. The majority of Kosovars are ethnically Albanian. La MaMa Experimental Theatre Club (La MaMa E.T.C.) is an Off-Off-Broadway theatre founded in 1961 by Ellen Stewart, African-American theatre director, producer, and fashion designer. Located in Manhattan's East Village, the theatre began in the basement boutique where Stewart sold her fashion designs. Antonio Fini
Antonio Fini (Calabria, Italy, March 26, 1983), also known as Antonio Pio Fini, is an Italian born modern dancer, choreographer, and director. He is a principal dancer with Michael Mao Dance and the founder and artistic director of Fini Dance Festival and the Italian International Dance Award. Early life Fini was born in Castrovillari, a village in the south of Italy. At 19, he was discovered by Margherita Smirnova and offered a scholarship to Milan’s Centro Studi Coreografici Teatro Carcano where he studied under the direction of Aldo Masella and Renata Bestetti. While in Milan, Fini danced for Teatro Massimo di Palermo, I Giovani del Carcano, Talenti in Scena, and Balletto di Milano. Michael Mao
Michael Mao (born Shanghai) is an American modern dance choreographer and educator. He is the artistic director of Michael Mao Dance. Early life Born in Shanghai, Mao's family emigrated to New York City when he was 5 years old. A graduate of Columbia Grammar & Preparatory School, Mao earned his BA in Literature from Princeton University. During his junior and senior years at Princeton, Mao successfully petitioned for dance to be recognized as deserving of academic credit. He would go on to receive his MA in Far Eastern Languages from Harvard University, where he was also a Ford Foundation Prize Fellow. Concurrent with his scholastic studies, Mao trained and performed as a professional dancer under the tutelage of Ted Shawn at Jacob's Pillow Dance, with Margaret Craske, Manolo Vargas, and Zena Rommett, and at the Martha Graham and Joffrey schools and the Cunningham studio.
