Parliamentary elections were held in Kosovo on 17 November 2001. The first President of Kosovo taking office after the start of the UN Administration Ibrahim Rugova, was re elected and took office on 2 March 2002. The elections were held under the government of the United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo. 1992 Kosovan General Election
General elections were held in Kosovo on 24 May 1992 to elect a President and Assembly. The overwhelming majority in the Assembly was won by the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK), while its leader Ibrahim Rugova was elected President of Kosovo. Prior to the elections, on 8 May the LDK declared that, "since the May 24 elections, announced by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosova, not as a struggle of Kosovo political parties for power, but as an organized and massive attempt to not accept the power structures and the status that Serbia is trying to impose on us, the LDK will try to campaign, organize and conduct elections to develop in the spirit of full cooperation, in different ways and forms, between all political parties and other political entities ”. United Nations Interim Administration Mission In Kosovo
The United Nations Interim Administration Mission in Kosovo (UNMIK) is the officially mandated mission of the United Nations in Kosovo. The UNMIK describes its mandate as being to "help the United Nations Security Council achieve an overall objective, namely, to ensure conditions for a peaceful and normal life for all inhabitants of Kosovo and advance regional stability in the Western Balkans." The president of the Republic of Kosovo ( sq, Presidenti i Republikës së Kosovës, ), is the head of state and chief representative of the de facto Republic of Kosovo in the country and abroad. The president is elected indirectly, by the Assembly of Kosovo, in a secret ballot by a two-thirds majority of deputies in functions. If no candidate achieves a two-thirds majority, at the third ballot the candidate who receives a simple majority is elected. Bajram Rexhepi
Bajram Rexhepi (3 June 1954 – 21 August 2017), was a Kosovar politician who served as the first elected post-war prime minister and later as interior minister of Kosovo and as a member of the Kosovo Assembly. He was a member of the second largest political party in Kosovo, the Democratic Party of Kosovo (PDK). Early life and education Rexhepi was born in Mitrovica, Kosovo on 3 June 1954. He graduated from the University of Prishtina and completed his postgraduate studies at the University of Zagreb in 1985. Early career Rexhepi spent most of his career working as a surgeon and achieved fame as the best surgeon for circumcisions in the Mitrovica region.
