Korricks
Korricks (in its earlier advertisements, Korricks' with final apostrophe (plural possessive) or "Chas. Korrick & Bro.") was a department store in Downtown Phoenix at 1 N. 1st St. at Washington, which later would be a branch of Los Angeles-based The Broadway. The brothers Samuel, Charles and Abraham Korrick were all born in Grodno in the Russian Empire, now in Belarus. Samuel Korrick (b. 1870) arrived in Phoenix in 1895 and opened a 25 foot side dry goods store which he called the New York Store. Over time it expanded to the upper floor of the building and took over neighboring storefronts. In 1900 brother Charles Korrick (b. 1888) arrived in Phoenix to work together on the store. In 1903 Samuel Korrick died; Charles was only 17. In 1905 brother Abraham Korrick (b. 1882) arrived in Phoenix to help. The Broadway
The Broadway was a mid-level department store chain headquartered in Los Angeles, California. Founded in 1896 by English-born Arthur Letts Sr., and named after what was once the city's main shopping street, the Broadway became a dominant retailer in Southern California and the Southwest. Its fortunes eventually declined, and Federated Department Stores (now Macy's, Inc.) bought the chain in 1995. In 1996, Broadway stores were either closed or converted into Macy's and Bloomingdales. Christown Spectrum Mall
Christown Spectrum is the oldest operating mall in Phoenix, Arizona and was the third shopping mall built in the city. It is located at 1703 W. Bethany Home Road in Phoenix, Arizona. The name Christown Spectrum is derived from Chris-Town Mall and Phoenix Spectrum Mall, previous names. Today it exists as an enclosed shopping mall, although the enclosed portion of the mall was greatly reduced when redevelopment changed the configuration closer to a power center. Christown Spectrum's anchor stores are SuperTarget, Walmart Supercenter, and soon to be occupied by another anchor store, American Furniture Warehouse, which will open later this year or early next year. Trost & Trost Architects & Engineers, often known as Trost & Trost, was an architecture firm based in El Paso, Texas. The firm's chief designer was Henry Charles Trost, who was born in Toledo, Ohio, in 1860. Trost moved from Chicago to Tucson, Arizona in 1899 and to El Paso in 1903. He partnered with Robert Rust to form Trost & Rust. Rust died in 1905 and later that year Trost formed the firm of Trost & Trost with his twin brother Gustavus Adolphus Trost, also an architect, who had joined the firm as a structural engineer. Between 1903 and Henry Trost's death on September 19, 1933, the firm designed hundreds of buildings in the El Paso area and in other Southwestern cities, including Albuquerque, Phoenix, Tucson, and San Angelo.
