Amadou Konte
Amadou Konte (born 13 January 1981 in Bamako) is a Malian-French former footballer. Career Konte started his career in the football academy of French side RC Strasbourg before moving to Portuguese club FC Porto. He did not make a first team breakthrough in FC Porto though, and moved again, firstly to CF Villanovense in Spain, then Olympique Noisy-le-Sec in CFA and Paternò in Serie C1. In the summer of 2004 Konte signed for Cambridge United and scored 3 goals in 9 appearances. This was enough to prompt interest from Hibernian, who signed him during the January 2005 transfer window, and he made his debut in a 3–0 defeat to Rangers at Ibrox the next month. His first goal was a late equaliser against Motherwell in May, earning Hibs a crucial point in their successful quest to qualify for European competition. Bai Konte
Alhaji Bai Konte (1920–1983) was a ''jali'' (praise singer) from Brikama, Gambia. His father, Burama Konte, composed the anthem of the 19th century Senegambian hero Mansumaneh Yundum, ''Yundum N'ko''. It was from that piece that the anthems of Sheriff Sidi Hydara and Nyansu Mbasse originated. Burama Konteh was a well-known kora player of his generation. Bai Konte was a regular on Radio Gambia and Radio Senegal's joint program called Chossani Senegambia (the history of Senegambia) in the 1970s. He and other griots such as Jali Nyama Suso and Alhaji Abdoulaye Samba (on xalam) used to play live music during the show. Bai Konteh had narrated many epics on that show including the epic of King Abdou Njie and his griot and advisor Ibra Faye. Prominent broadcasters of that show included Alhaji Alieu Ebrima Cham Joof, Alhaji Assan Njie and Alhaji Mansour Njie. Konte founded the Africa Fête music festival in 1978 in France, where he lived for many years as a French Malian immigrant as a longtime Paris resident. Africa Fete is an important international music festival that highlights established and up-and-coming African musical artists. Africa Fete has been credited with popularizing African music in France. The first years of the festival were held in France.
