Koninklijke Stichting Defensiemusea
The Stichting Koninklijke Defensiemusea (SKD, previously KSD; ''Royal Foundation for Defence Museums'') is an umbrella organization managing the collections of the four main military museums in the Netherlands - the Nationaal Militair Museum (NMM) in Soesterberg, the Marinemuseum in Den Helder, the Mariniersmuseum in Rotterdam, and the Marechausseemuseum in Buren. It was set up on 1 July 2014 by the Dutch Ministry of Defence as an intermediary between the Ministry and the museums themselves. The Ministry of Defence provides an annual subsidy of 7.5 million Euros (2012 pricing levels), along with annual payments of 8.4 million Euros for 25 years to the NMM's public-private partnership, known as 'Design, Build, Finance, Maintain & Operate'. Arnhem
Arnhem ( or ; german: Arnheim; South Guelderish: ''Èrnem'') is a city and municipality situated in the eastern part of the Netherlands about 55 km south east of Utrecht. It is the capital of the province of Gelderland, located on both banks of the rivers Nederrijn and Sint-Jansbeek, which was the source of the city's development. Arnhem had a population of 163.972 on 1 December 2021, which made it one of the larger cities of the Netherlands. Bronbeek
Bronbeek is a former Royal palace in Arnhem, Netherlands. It is now a museum and a home for elderly soldiers. Bronbeek was built early in the 19th century. In 1845 the Dutch King William III bought it. He donated it to the Dutch state in 1859. William wanted it to be a home for disabled KNIL soldiers. The inhabitants took their collections of 'souvenirs' with them. This turned into a museum about the Dutch East Indies. In 2004, 50 former soldiers had their home in Bronbeek. The Dutch East Indies, also known as the Netherlands East Indies ( nl, Nederlands(ch)-Indië; ), was a Dutch colony consisting of what is now Indonesia. It was formed from the nationalised trading posts of the Dutch East India Company, which came under the administration of the Dutch government in 1800. During the 19th century, the Dutch possessions and hegemony expanded, reaching the greatest territorial extent in the early 20th century. De Kooy Airfield
De Kooy Airfield ( nl, Vliegveld De Kooy) is an airfield south of Den Helder, Netherlands, named after the nearby hamlet De Kooy. It serves as both a civilian airport under the name Den Helder Airport and a naval airport under the name ''Maritiem Vliegkamp De Kooy'' (Dutch for Maritime Aviation Site De Kooy). Most movements on the De Kooy are made by helicopters, bringing workers to and from offshore oilrigs and naval helicopters such as the NH90 of the Naval Aviation Service of the Royal Netherlands Navy. Fixed-wing aircraft visit and operate from the airport alongside. Nieuwe Haven is a Royal Netherlands Navy base in Den Helder and the largest naval base in the Netherlands.
