Konex Chess Tournament
The first Konex Master Chess Tournament organized by the founder and president of the Konex Foundation, Luis Ovsejevich, started off in Buenos Aires in 1977. The foundation sponsored Marcelo Tempone, World Chess Champion Junior, for further training and so as to participate in international tournaments (1979-1980), the Argentine Team to the Olympiads for players under 26, held at Mexico City 1980, the Argentine Chess Team, to the First World Chess Championship for Teams, held in Lucerne, Switzerland, in 1985, Hugo Spangenberg (13 years old) in the Infant World Chess Championship, at Puerto Rico 1989, and the participation of the Argentine and South American (Female) Champion Claudia Amura Claudia Noemí Amura (born 26 August 1970) is an Argentinian chess player holding the title of Woman Grandmaster. Konex Foundation
Konex Foundation (''Fundación Konex'')is an Argentine cultural non-profit organization created in 1980 ''to promote, stimulate, help, and participate in any form of cultural, educational, intellectual, artistic, social, philanthropic, scientific or sports initiative, work, and enterprise, in their most relevant aspects'', as defined by its founder and president, Dr. Luis Ovsejevich. The Konex Foundation provides scholarships and individual grants and also sponsors and stimulates group activities through subsidies and assistance to meritorious ideas and enterprises. Miguel Quinteros
Miguel Ángel Quinteros (born December 28, 1947 in Buenos Aires) is an Argentine chess player who received the FIDE title of Grandmaster (GM) in 1973. Chess career He won the Argentine Chess Championship in 1966 at the age of 18, the youngest player to ever win that event. In 1969, he took eighth place at the Mar del Plata Zonal tournament (ZT). In 1972, he tied for second/third place at the São Paulo ZT, earning him a place at the Interzonal tournament in Leningrad the following year and finishing 11–12th. Pablo Ricardi (born 25 February 1962) is an Argentine chess player who receive the FIDE title of Grandmaster in 1985. He won the Argentine Chess Championship five times (1994, 1995, 1996, 1998, and 1999), and was a sub-champion in 2005. He also won or shared first at La Paz 1987 (Pan American Chess Championship), Buenos Aires 1991 (Seventh International Konex Master Chess Open Tournament), Villa Gesell 1996, Buenos Aires 2003, and Santiago de Chile 2006. Iván Morovic
Iván Eduardo Morovic Fernández (born 24 March 1963) is a Chilean chess player with the title of International Grandmaster. Born in Viña del Mar, he began to play chess at age 9. In 1979 he won the Pan American Junior Chess Championship. In 1980, Morovic took third place in the World Junior Chess Championship in Dortmund, behind Garry Kasparov and Nigel Short. The following year he won the Chilean Chess Championship. At 22 he became the first Chilean to be awarded by FIDE the title of International Grandmaster (GM). Luis Ovsejevich (Buenos Aires, born September 13, 1941) is an Argentine lawyer and businessman, founder and president of the Konex Foundation, from its creation in 1980. Through it the Konex Awards have been granted annually since 1980 to personalities and institutions standing out for his, her or its achievements in 10 different fields. Ljubomir Ljubojević (; born November 2, 1950) is a Serbian chess grandmaster. He won the Yugoslav Chess Championship in 1977 (tied) and 1982. Life and career Ljubojević was born on 2 November 1950 in Titovo Užice, Yugoslavia (now Užice, Serbia). He was awarded the International Master (IM) title in 1970 and the Grandmaster (GM) title in 1971. Ljubojević was Yugoslav champion in 1977 (jointly) and 1982.
