Konedobu
Konedobu is a suburb of Port Moresby, the capital of Papua New Guinea. It is located in the valley in between Touaguba Hill and Burns Peak. The suburb is the location of numerous Government departments, including the headquarters of the Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary. It also contains residential areas and The Hubert Murray Sports Stadium. The Aviat club and Royal Papua Yacht Club are located in Konedobu. The suburb is often referred to as 'Kone'. Papua New Guinea Post-Courier
The ''Papua New Guinea Post-Courier'' is a newspaper based in Konedobu, Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea. It was established on 30 June 1969. Its parent company, The Herald and Weekly Times (later purchased by News Corp Australia), had acquired what had then been the two main newspapers in Papua New Guinea, the three-days-a-week ''South Pacific Post'' and the twice-weekly ''New Guinea Times Courier'', and decided to amalgamate them into one publication. It was the first national daily newspaper in Papua New Guinea. Luke Sela was editor from 1978 to 2000. With a circulation of 41,000, the ''Post-Courier'' is the largest selling Pacific Island newspaper. The paper is majority owned by Rupert Murdoch's News Corp. The ''Post-Courier's'' readership is mainly urban, and it is considered to be influential in the community. Port Moresby
(; Tok Pisin: ''Pot Mosbi''), also referred to as Pom City or simply Moresby, is the capital and largest city of Papua New Guinea. It is one of the largest cities in the southwestern Pacific (along with Jayapura) outside of Australia and New Zealand. It is located on the shores of the Gulf of Papua, on the south-western coast of the Papuan Peninsula of the island of New Guinea. The city emerged as a trade centre in the second half of the 19th century. The Royal Papua New Guinea Constabulary (RPNGC) is a national police force with jurisdiction throughout all of Papua New Guinea. History The RPNGC was formed from two predecessor bodies that existed prior to the independence of Papua New Guinea. The Royal Papuan Constabulary, initially established by the Australian colonial administration as part of setting up Papua in the late 19th century, and the New Guinea Police Force which covered the former German New Guinea and British New Guinea also set up by Australia, initially during World War I and formalized as part of the League of Nations mandate of 1920. The constabulary played a significant role resisting the Japanese occupation of New Guinea during World War II. Hubert Murray Stadium
The Hubert Murray Stadium is a sports venue located in Port Moresby, the capital city of Papua New Guinea. It was developed for the 1969 South Pacific Games on reclaimed land at Konedobu that had previously been shoreline mangroves. The athletics events and the opening and closing ceremonies were held at the new stadium, which was named after Sir Hubert Murray, a former lieutenant governor. With an initial capacity of approximately 15,000 spectators, it was used for soccer and school athletic events after the 1969 games. In late 2003, a three-stage redevelopment of the site at a cost of K120 million via a public-private partnership began to expand the capacity to seat 25,000 people. The redeveloped stadium will be used for rugby league, rugby union, and soccer in a venue fit for FIFA standards, naturally grassed and with lighting suitable for television broadcasting of night events.
